Each of the military service offers assistance to
family members looking for employment through
their community or family service center. The
Department of Labor and Industrial Relations
(DLIR) is responsible for ensuring and increasing
the economic security, well-being, and productivity
of Hawaii's workers. The department promotes
access to employment. DLIR announced
that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate
for May 2007 was 2.5 percent, a slight increase
over April's rate of 2.4 percent, but lower than the
rate of 2.6 in May 2006. Hawaii shares with Utah
the distinction of having the country's second
lowest unemployment rate.
