MISSION

Air Combat Command Mission (ACC)
Air Combat Command is the primary force provider of combat airpower to America's warfighting commands. To support global implementation of national security strategy, ACC operates fighter, bomber, reconnaissance, battle-management and electronic-combat aircraft. It also provides command, control, communications and intelligence systems and conducts global information operations.

As a force provider, the ACC organizes, trains, equips and maintains combat-ready forces for rapid deployment and employment while ensuring strategic air defense forces are ready to meet the challenges of peacetime air sovereignty and wartime air defense.ACC numbered air forces provide the air component to U.S. Central and Southern Commands with Headquarters ACC serving as the air component to U.S. Northern and Joint Forces Commands. ACC also augments forces to U.S. European, Pacific and Strategic Commands.

1st Fighter Wing Mission
As the host unit at Langley Air Force Base, Va., the 1st Fighter Wing operates and maintains one of the largest fighter bases in Air Combat Command. The wing flies the F-22A Raptor and F-15 Eagle.

The 1st Fighter Wing's mission is "to deliver airpower; train, equip and deploy Airmen; deploy, fight and win—anywhere, any time and to deliver 'first-class, first-time' support to Team Langley." Throughout its history, the 1st Fighter Wing has led the way, wherever and whenever called upon. In the 1990s with Operation Desert Shield and Storm, and then in 2003 with Iraqi Freedom, the wing has actively participated in numerous deployments and exercises throughout the world.

The 192nd Fighter Wing is an Air National Guard component of the Virginia National Guard, located in Sandston, Va., and Langley Air Force Base, Va. The 192nd FW augments the active duty Air Force components in the performance of their missions and other joint force operations.

192nd Fighter Wing Mission
The mission of the 192nd Fighter Wing is "to provide a fully trained organization of volunteers dedicated to protect and defend the vital interest of the nation, state and community. The wing will provide combat-ready personnel and equipment to support U.S. national security objectives in a federal capacity; protect life and property and preserve peace, order and safety in a state capacity; and participate in local, state and national programs that add value to America in a community capacity."

"The mission of the 192nd FighterWing is to maintain the highest possible degree of combat readiness so as to be an effective combat unit to the U.S. Air Force upon mobilization. It is to execute directed tactical fighter missions designed to destroy enemy military forces, supplies, equipment, communications systems and installations."

UNITS

1st Fighter Wing
As the host unit at Langley Air Force Base, Va., the 1st Fighter Wing operates and maintains one of the largest fighter bases in Air Combat Command. The wing flies the F-22A Raptor and F-15 Eagle.

To accomplish their mission, the men and women of the 1st Fighter Wing work in one of four groups: the Operations Group, Maintenance Group, Mission Support Group or Medical Group. More than 20 squadrons comprise the four groups, which includes three fighter squadrons: the 27th FS known as the Fightin' Eagles, the 71st FS known as the Ironmen and the 94th FS known as the Hat-in-the-Ring Gang.

1st Maintenance Group
The 1st Maintenance Group provides aircraft maintenance for one of Air Combat Command's largest wings, with more than 30 associate organizations and Headquarters ACC. 1st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (AMXS) The 1st AMXS is the focal point for the 1st FW's combat sortie generation operations. The 1st AMXS directs the efforts of 814 aircraft maintenance and support personnel; manages a $23-million equipment inventory to sustain more than 40 F-15C/D and 25 F-22A aircraft valued at $2.3 billion; and ensures mission-capable aircraft are available to support the wing's yearly flying-hour program, deploy for combat training exercises and meet contingency operations.

1st Component
Maintenance Squadron (CMS)
The 1st CMS provides on-equipment and intermediate maintenance on the wing's F-22A and F-15C/D aircraft avionics and accessories systems as well as a fleet of F100-PW-100 and F119-PW-100 engines; calibrates and repairs test, measurement and diagnostic equipment; and prepares to mobilize, deploy and sustain worldwide combat and contingency air superiority operations in support of three fighter squadrons and Aerospace Expeditionary Force taskings.

1st Equipment
Maintenance Squadron (EMS)
The 1st EMS maintains a combat-ready wing of F-22A and F-15C/D aircraft and support equipment prepared to mobilize, deploy and sustain worldwide combat/contingency air-superiority operations in support of three fighter squadrons; performs all structural and armament system maintenance, corrosion prevention and aircraft painting; and stores, maintains and builds most sophisticated munitions in the Air Force inventory, including the AIM-120.

1st Maintenance Operations Squadron
The 1stMOS is the 1st FW's focal point for maintaining the combat readiness of its F-15C/D fleet and the combat readiness of the maintenance group aviators. The 1st MOS manages instructional qualification program for F-15C/D aircraft, as well as the new F-22A Raptor, and all maintenance-related AFSCs and the wing skill level upgrade and Status of Training programs. It is also responsible for management of the 1st MXG's personnel, finances and facilities.

1st MXG
The 1st MXG is responsible for worldwide rapid deployment and employment of combat-ready/ mission-capable F-15C/D aircraft in support of Air and Space Expeditionary Force deployments and Operation Noble Eagle missions. They are also responsible for the F-22A Raptor that is new to Langley, as the first operational F-22A squadrons receive their complement of Raptors.

1st Medical Group
The 1st Medical Group works and trains as a team to maintain a maximum state of readiness for any contingency while providing quality service to its internal and external customers. The group's 786 personnel maintain a full-service, 40-bed hospital providing inpatient, outpatient and urgent care, as well as two satellite clinics at the BethelManor base housing area and Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport News, Va.

1st Aerospace Medicine Squadron
The 1st AMDS provides a comprehensive aerospace medicine program that promotes fitness and wellness; enhances operational performance and medical readiness; provides primary care to flyers and their families; oversees 1,700 aerospace physiology trainees annually; maintains oversight of a 25-bed Expeditionary Medical Support (EMEDS) asset; and manages the Langley industrial hygiene and occupational medicine program.

1st Dental Squadron
The 1st Dental Squadron provides prompt, accessible and comprehensive dental care to more than 8,000 Air Combat Command warriors in support of global contingencies and prepares the Air Force's newest dental officers to eagerly accept this vital link in the Air Force mission. The 1st DS provides treatment to 37,000 patients annually and operates a 31-treatment room facility and one satellite clinic, executing a $513,000-dollar annual budget. The 1st DS maintains dental health of more than 400 active flying and 4,000 mobility personnel ensuring worldwide qualification for deployment and also supports a 25-bed Expeditionary Medical Support (EMEDS) asset.

1st Medical Operations Squadron
The 1st MDOS works and trains together as a team to maintain a maximum state of readiness for any contingency while providing quality service to internal and external customers.

1st Medical Support Squadron
The 1st Medical Support Squadron supports Langley along with the eligible beneficiary population, Air Combat Command, the Department of Defense and our nation's security by providing health support for the full range of military deployments and sustaining the health of members of the Armed Forces, their families and others to advance our national security interests. The 1st MDSS provides the highest standard of direct medical care and medical administrative services to Langley units. Administrative and ancillary departments support a 35-bed hospital with an annual patient base of 400,000. Resource managers execute a $24-million budget. The 1st MDSS also maintains logistical support for 60 sections and 25-bed Expeditionary Medical Support asset and manages TRICARE-Department of Defense managed health care plan.

1st Mission Support Group
The 1st Mission Support Group provides wartime and peacetime mission support of deployment operations, construction, facility maintenance, security, contracting, communications and information services, supply, transportation, personnel support and services and housing maintenance for the Headquarters Air Combat Command, 1st Fighter Wing, more than 30 associate units, and a base community comprised of 75,000 active-duty, civilian and retired personnel.

1st Civil Engineering Squadron
The 1st CES provides the necessary assets and skilled personnel to prepare and sustain global installation for the projection of aerospace power in peace and war. It maintains all real property on Langley AFB; facility maintenance, infrastructure, airfield pavements, airfield lighting, explosive ordnance disposal, land use planning and environmental management are the singular responsibility of the 1st CES.

1st Communications Squadron
The 1st CS provides combat-ready communications and information systems, to include audiovisual and air traffic control systems, for the 1st Fighter Wing and Headquarters Air Combat Command, ensuring readiness for worldwide warfighting missions. It services more than 10,000 personnel with unclassified and classified systems support, including more than 30 associate units and manages a $4 million annual budget, more than $100 million dollars in equipment and 500 personnel.

1st Contracting Squadron
The 1st CONS provides operational and contingency contracting support to Headquarters Air Combat Command, 1st Fighter Wing, two large remote geographically separated units and more than 30 associate units. The 1st CONS acquires and administers supply, services, construction and utilities contracts in support of more than 10,775 base personnel; is responsible for key roles in competitive sourcing and privatization efforts; and supports requirements for bed down of the F-22A Raptor.

1st Logistics Readiness Squadron
The 1st Logistics Readiness Squadron is the ultimate logistics organization, combining planning, supply and transportation skills into one organization, under one commander, with all the resources to keep pace with the swift demands of deployment, employment and sustainment support requirements.

1st Mission Support Squadron
The 1st MSS promotes readiness for worldwide warfighting missions by providing quality military and civilian personnel support, education counseling and services, family support programs and enlisted professional military education to the 1st Fighter Wing, Headquarters Air Combat Command and more than 140 units in 11 different major commands and separate operating agencies. The 1st MSS provides services to more than 8,000 military, 2,000 civilian and approximately 22,000 retirees and family members.
