The first areas of concern for relocating families
are usually those of housing, child care and education.
The following section is intended to familiarize
you with different options in each of those areas.
Child Care
Child Development Centers
CDC #1-Building 2430
CDC #2 -Building 2414
McGuire AFB has two large Child Development
Centers (CDC's) for children ages six weeks
through five years. Both CDC's are accredited by
the National Association for the Education of
Young Children (NAEYC).
Most of the rooms in CDC #1 are designed for
toddlers and infants. CDC #2 offers a part-day preschool
program during the school year and also
works in linking children to the Youth Center
School Age Program. Both CDC's are newly opened
and have the capacity to hold over 200 children.
The Learning Express Child Development Center
in NAES Lakehurst accepts infants and children
six weeks old to school age. Navy certified Child
Development Home Providers are also available at
NAES Lakehurst as a child care option. For more
information call (732) 323-2260.
Family Child Care Program
(609) 562-5231
The Family Child Care Program enables base
residents to provide in-home care for children
between the ages of six weeks to 12 years in
McGuire AFB and Ft. Dix. Providers of Family
Child Care (FCC) may care for up to six children
under the age of eight and are provided with training
including the USDA Food Training Program.
FCC providers must complete a training program
and pass background screening before approval can
be made to provide child care services.
Youth Activities Center
Building 3830
(609) 754-5437 or DSN 650-5437
McGuire AFB houses an accredited Youth Activities
Center which is affiliated with the New Jersey
Boys and Girls Club Alliance. Funding is received
from the State Juvenile Justice prevention programs
to expand the areas of education provided
for enrolled youth.
The Youth Activities Center provides a variety of
programs for children ages six through 18 including youth sports such as soccer, basketball, hockey and golf. Activities are also available for special needs children.
A School Age Program is also in place at the
Youth Center for children in the first grade up to age
12. The School Age Program also offers a variety of
youth programs including science, art and homework
areas. The School Age Program is accredited
by the National School Age Care Alliance (NSACA) and is an example setting program. Staff members from other centers regularly observe the McGuire AFB School Age Program and internships are also available.
