On-Post Family Housing
On-post family housing consists of one- and two-story, single-family homes and duplex-style homes. Some homes on post date from 1884 and are part of the old Calvary Fort now listed as a state and national historic landmark. Through the Army’s Residential Communities Initiative (RCI), Michaels Military Housing (MMH), through the Mountain Vista Communities (MVC), operates and maintains existing homes, has constructed new homes and has renovated some of the historic homes on Fort Huachuca.
Family Housing - Mountain Vista Communities
On April 1, 2009, Fort Huachuca family housing became privatized under the RCI. MMH began its 50-year plan for the development, construction and operation of the 1,134 privatized family housing units on Fort Huachuca. The program’s goal is to improve the quality of life for military families by offering safe, affordable and attractive residential communities. The Army chose Michaels Military Housing as the development partner to complete this mission at Fort Huachuca. The Army and MMH partnered to form a new entity to manage and maintain the housing — MVC, 520-515-9000, MVC@TheMichaelsOrg.com.
Although MVC is your landlord, MMH owns the property and handles all of the construction, while housing operations are professionally managed by Michaels Management Services. MMH is solely owned, managed and operated by the Michaels Organization, based out of New Jersey. MMH has been organized and resourced to be a long-term partner with the Army through the Military Residential Coordination Office. Castle & Cooke and R.L. Workman constructed the new homes, and Prestige Construction revitalized the historic homes.
All military members with families are required by the Department of the Army to report to the Housing Services Office (HSO) as part of in-processing. The phone number is 520-533-3611. Military personnel must sign in for duty and have their permanent change of station orders before they can apply for on-post housing. Fort Huachuca homes are available to military members from all service branches assigned to Fort Huachuca.
As new families arrive at Fort Huachuca, they are directed to the on-post family housing office (MVC), where they are greeted by a team of professionally trained housing specialists. Normal operating hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays. The phone number is 520-515-9000. The waiting times for assignment to on-post housing varies by eligibility date, rank and bedroom requirements. Both MVC and HSO offices are at Building 52065, Smith Avenue.
Many families buy or rent housing in the nearby private communities. The HSO is staffed with government employees to provide relocation assistance to Soldiers and families in locating suitable private rental housing. You must contact the HSO before you rent or buy housing off post. You will be provided with information regarding available, affordable and appropriate apartments and homes. The HSO staff is specially trained, has experience with the local rental market and can help you avoid problems. For more information, contact the staff of the Housing Services Office at 520-533-3611.
