Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)
A workplace providing full and fair employment opportunities for the federal government’s civilian workforce became law with the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Executive Order 11478, followed by the passage of laws, statutes and amendments, made it unlawful to discriminate in making decisions or treating people differently based on race, color, age, sex, religion, national origin, disability or reprisal. In 2008, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act was enacted, ensuring that individuals are not discouraged from availing themselves of genetic testing and genetic services for fear of losing their health benefits or that their employers will take adverse employment actions against them based on their genetic information.
U.S. Army Garrison Alaska and tenant units use many different tools to provide full and fair employment opportunities to their military and civilian workforces.
Civil rights information relative to the civilian workforce is provided through the Equal Employment Opportunity Office at the following locations:

The objectives are straightforward. The first is to provide full and fair opportunity for all employees and applicants for employment to pursue a career. The second is to provide for the nondiscriminatory treatment of all employees as they carry out their duties in the workplace.
The EEO program’s objective is to implement and administer four specific functional areas: affirmative employment, complaints of discrimination, training and special emphasis programs, with a cadre of collateral-duty staff to serve the civilian workforce. The staff solicits comments and welcomes callers requesting service or advice.

Before this PCS move, gather and hand-carry the following items to assist in your job search: school transcripts, professional certificates, awards and honors, volunteer portfolio, current work history, updated resume and/or federal application, contact information for at least three references and letters of recommendation or appreciation.
Federal employees bring: SF50, Performance Appraisal. Civilian employees need to contact the Civilian Personnel Office for information about priority placement and extended leave without pay.
The Fairbanks economy has experienced steady, moderate growth since 1989 and has weathered the national economic crisis reasonably well.
