Carlisle Barracks, located in Cumberland County, is the nation’s second-oldest active military base. It was the home of George Washington’s first arsenal and school and was formerly the home of one of the nation’s boarding schools for Native Americans. Tenants include the U.S. Army War College, Dunham Health Clinic, Network Enterprise Center, Dental Care System, Veterinary Command, Army Physical Fitness Research Institute, Peacekeeping & Stability Operations Institute, Criminal Investigation Division, Commissary and Post Exchange.

The mission has always been to support our nation’s men and women in uniform. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, performs its mission as a modern military distribution complex, responsible for providing Department of Defense-owned commodities to all branches of the armed forces and other agencies of the federal government throughout the world. DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, is the largest DOD distribution center under the DLA and within the DLA Distribution.

Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD) was originally established as an ammunition depot. Today, it is known as the Army’s capabilities-based depot. It is located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, between Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and Hagerstown, Maryland. The depot includes more than 18,000 acres and is the biggest employer in Franklin County. LEAD is the premier DOD center of industrial and technical excellence for air defense and tactical missile ground support equipment, mobile electric power generation equipment and Patriot missile recertification.

Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mechanicsburg is centrally located between Hershey and Gettysburg, serving about 5,000 military, civilian and contracted employees. Naval Inventory Control Point Mechanicsburg is the largest facility, with about 2,000 personnel, and the Navy Supply Information Systems Activity is next with about 1,000 personnel. NSA Mechanicsburg spans about 800 acres, with more than 150 buildings and 8.8 million square feet of space. More than 30 tenant commands are residents at the installation, including the Defense Logistics Center and Naval Fleet Material Support Office. The NSA maintains inventory management of weapons and equipment, end items and nonweapons system-related items.

The Lebanon VA Medical Center, in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, is near Hershey, the chocolate capital of the United States. Lebanon VAMC provides acute medical, surgical and behavioral health care, providing intensive care unit beds and acute care beds. Inpatient hospice care is available and nursing home care is provided to inpatients on both a short- and long-term basis. The VAMC has a full range of home care and community services, including home-based primary care, homemaker home health care, community residential care, adult day health care and homeless veterans care. VAMC is a teaching hospital, providing medical and surgical care in affiliation with Penn State University Medical School. More than 250 university students are trained at the Lebanon VAMC each year, and additional training opportunities are offered to more than 150 students annually.
