Army Community Service is a one-stop information and
referral agency that is of particular interest to newcomers.
ACS also prepares Soldiers and Families for the everchanging
military lifestyle by providing a wide variety of
educational programs. These programs are housed in two
buildings.
The Consolidated Soldier and Family Support Center in
Clark Hall houses the following programs: Family Member Employment Readiness, Army Emergency Relief,
Financial Readiness Program, and SFAC.
The remaining programs are located in building
P-4430, in the Pines Plains Complex. These
programs include Army Family Team Building,
Army Volunteer Corps, Community Life,
Exceptional Family Member Program, Family
Advocacy, Mobilization and Deployment, New
Parent Support, Relocation Readiness Program,
and the Unit Service Coordinators. This building
also serves as the Family Readiness Center, the
hub of deployment-related activities.
ARMY EMERGENCY RELIEF
Army Emergency Relief is dedicated to
assisting service members, retirees, survivors,
and their Families with emergency financial
assistance. The AER program can help with
emergency travel, prevention of eviction, first
month's rent and security deposit, emergency
food needs, auto repair, and emergency medical
and dental expenses. The program provides
interest free loans and grants to members of
the military community with valid emergency
needs. The AER program is run by funds provided
by the contributions from service members
and the community. In addition to emergency
assistance, AER offers scholarships to Soldier
Family members.
ARMY FAMILY TEAM BUILDING
Army Family Team Building helps individuals
adapt to Army Life by providing information
about the resources available to Soldiers and
Army Family members.
Workshops and classes are scheduled on a
monthly basis. This training prepares everyone in
America's Army to function at his or her highest
level, in any situation, with minimal outside support.
The training improves personal and Family
preparedness, which enhances overall Army
readiness. Child care is available with advance
registration provided that children are registered
with Child, Youth and School Services.
AFTB also offers customized classes for individual
units, Family Readiness Groups and organizations
on an individual basis. The AFTB office
is conveniently located in the Army Community
Service building in the Pine Plains Complex.
AFTB also coordinates the Army Family
Action Plan, an Army-wide program designed
to give a voice to the military community as a
whole. Targeted forums on various community
topics are held throughout the year, in addition
to an annual installation forum. These forums
help to identify and resolve issues in the Fort
Drum community. Many issues can be resolved
at the local level. Issues of command or Army wide
interest are sent on to higher levels.
ARTS AND CRAFTS CENTER
The Arts and Crafts Center offers a wide variety
of classes, studios, and equipment for both amateur
and experienced crafters. Patrons will find
studios for stained glass, framing, pottery, ceramics,
wood shop, sewing, quilting, jewelry making,
water color/acrylic painting, pen and ink, rubber
stamping/scrapbooking, soap/candle classes,
knitting/crochet classes, and a meeting room.
A laser engraving and sublimation printing
service is available at the facility. T-shirts, mugs,
plaques, glass bottles, bags, and memory photos
for quilt projects are all available, 7-10 day turnaround
time.
The wood shop contains large and small woodworking
tools, while the ceramics shop offers
more than 3,000 molds. Qualification classes
are regularly scheduled for all studios. Tools,
instruction, and studios are available for minimum
fees. Most materials for craft classes that
we teach are available in our retail store. A supply
list is provided to the customer upon signing up
for classes.
The Art of the Mountain Fine Arts Gallery features
Fort Drum community artists. The gallery
is always accepting new artwork for display.
