Fort Huachuca | Housing

On-post family housing consists of one and two-story single-family homes and duplexes. Some homes on post date from 1884 and are part of the old Calvary Fort now listed as a state and national historic landmark. Through the Army's Residential Communities Initiative (RCI), Fort Huachuca is constructing new homes and performing various levels of renovation to the existing units over the next five years.

On April 1, 2009, Fort Huachuca family housing became privatized under the RCI. The program's goal is to improve the quality of life for military families by offering safe, affordable and attractive residential communities. The Army chose Michaels Military Housing, LLC (MMH) as the development partner to take on this mission at Fort Huachuca. The Army and Michaels came together to form a new entity to manage and maintain the housing—Mountain Vista Communities, LLC (MVC).

Although MVC is your landlord, MMH handles all of the day-to-day construction while housing operations are professionally managed by Jillden Realty Management Company. MMH is solely owned, managed and operated by Michaels Development Company and its affiliate, Jillden Realty Management. MMH has been organized and resourced to be a long-term partner with the Military Housing Privatization Initiative. Castle & Cooke and R. L. Workman Homes, the general contractors, are constructing new homes. Prestige Renovations, also a general contractor, is renovating current housing to bring them up to community standards.

MMH has started its 50-year plan for the development, construction and operations of 1064 privatized family housing units on Fort Huachuca. We plan to demolish a total of 500 homes, build 201 new homes, and renovate 57 homes at varying levels.

Housing Registration
All Military members with families are required by the Department of the Army to report to the Housing Services Office (HSO) as part of in-processing. Military personnel must sign in for duty and have their permanent change-of-station orders before they can apply for on-post housing. Fort Huachuca homes are available to military members from all service branches assigned to Fort Huachuca. As new families arrive at Fort Huachuca, they are directed to the housing office where they are greeted by a team of professionally trained housing counselors. Both MVC and HSO offices are located at Building 52065, Smith Street. Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding Federal Holidays. The phone number is (520) 515-9000. The waiting times for assignment to on-post housing varies by rank and bedroom requirements.

Off-Post Housing
Many families buy or rent housing in the nearby private communities. The Housing Services Office (HSO) is staffed with government employees to provide relocation assistance to Soldiers and families in locating suitable private rental housing. You must contact the HSO before you rent or buy housing off-post. This will ensure you don't enter into a rental agreement with a landlord or agent on the Restrictive Sanction List. The HSO staff is specially trained and has experience with the local rental market and can help you avoid problems. For more information, contact the staff of the Housing Services Office at 533-3611.
