Medical Care
Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson’s main medical facility, is a 12-story medical treatment facility which operates 36 inpatient beds and 25 ambulatory clinics. On an average day, Moncrief provides medical care for 15 inpatients, sees 1,576 patients in its ambulatory clinics, fills 2,195 prescriptions, and performs approximately 2,126 laboratory procedures and 378 radiological procedures, including nuclear medicine tests. Moncrief Army Community Hospital works closely with the Dorn Veterans Administration Medical Center, the 20th Medical Group at Shaw AFB, and local civilian facilities to provide quality healthcare services.

Family Health Center
The Family Health Center (FHC) is the major primary care access point for permanent party active duty service members, their family members and retirees and their family members who are enrolled in TRICARE Prime.

Located on the ground floor to the right of the hospital’s main entrance, the FHC is open Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is closed on holidays. Patients are asked to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment for check-in and vital signs screening. Please plan for anticipated delays at the entrance gates to post. All TRICARE Prime patients are assigned a healthcare provider who serves as the patient’s primary care manager.

Your PCM will provide for your healthcare needs or coordinate referrals for any healthcare services required. To make an appointment with your PCM, call 751-CARE (751-2273). Your PCM will initiate specialty referrals to other clinics throughout the hospital or within the TRICARE network as necessary. Permanent party Soldiers may call 751-CARE (751-2273) between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to obtain an appointment for sick call. Sick-call appointments for permanent party are available throughout the day in the FHC to be as convenient as possible. An effort is made to schedule that appointment with the Soldier’s PCM.

If a scheduled appointment needs to be canceled, call 751-CARE (2273) between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. For after hours call our automated line at 751-2904. You will be asked your name, the last four numbers of the sponsor’s Social Security number, the date and time of the appointment and the clinic where the appointment was scheduled.

TRICARE
TRICARE, the Military Healthcare System’s managed care program, has been in operation in South Carolina since 1996. In partnership with the Humana Military Healthcare Services and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of South Carolina, a large, robust network of civilian providers has been established in the Columbia metropolitan area. TRICARE offers three options for eligible beneficiaries: Prime, Extra and Standard. TRICARE Standard, formerly known as CHAMPUS, offers beneficiaries the widest choice of providers and facilities, but also has the highest cost-sharing requirements. Active-duty family members, retirees and retiree family members are encouraged to enroll in TRICARE Prime.

TRICARE Prime enrolled beneficiaries have priority for care within the Military Treatment Facility. Active-duty service members assigned to Fort Jackson are required to in-process through the TRICARE Service Center to transfer their Prime enrollment and their Primary Care Manager to Moncrief Army Community Hospital. TRICARE Service Center
The TRICARE Service Center is located within Moncrief Army Community Hospital on the 10th floor. The TSC staff can help with TRICARE questions, TRICARE Prime enrollment or billing issues. Newly arriving families, who are enrolled in TRICARE Prime, should make the TRICARE Service Center one of their first stops after arriving at Fort Jackson. The center will provide information on how to access care and the steps to take for emergency care or care while traveling. MACH also has a patient services office 751-2123/2425/2778 located on the 10th floor that can assist with health benefits questions, debt collections assistance or patient complaints/compliments.

Pharmacy
The Main Outpatient Pharmacy, located on the ground floor of the hospital, is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to noon. Please have a valid military identification for all patients older than 10. Quick formularies are available in the pharmacy lobby or on the Web site. For more information, call 751-2385.

Refills may be obtained at PX Refill Pharmacy at the main Post Exchange Mall. The Refill Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. The Refill pharmacy is not able to fill new prescriptions. All refills are picked up at the PX refill pharmacy by calling 751-2250 or (866) 489-0950. In addition to Moncrief’s services, beneficiaries may use the TRICARE Mail Order Pharmacy (TMOP) or network retail pharmacies. The TMOP enables eligible beneficiaries to obtain a 90-day supply of their medication via the postal system.

McWethy Troop Medical Clinic
McWethy Troop Medical Clinic provides healthcare to all initial-entry training Soldiers, Soldiers on temporary duty status, Reserve Component Soldiers on drill or annual training status, and any Soldier in student status assigned or attached to Fort Jackson. The clinic also provides well-woman exams and pap screenings for Advanced Individual Training female Soldiers. Located across from the hospital, McWethy Troop Medical clinic is open Monday through Saturday and holidays, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., closing at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Community Mental Health Services
Located in the McWethy Troop Medical Clinic, Fort Jackson’s Community Mental Health Services provides a wide range of mental health services, including evaluation and treatment of emotional illness and human interaction problems. Appointments are required, but active duty Soldiers with emergencies will be seen on a walk-in basis. For information, call 751-5183.

Preventive Medicine
The Department of Preventive Medicine, serving as Fort Jackson’s “Public Health Department,” is located at 4556 Stuart St., between Scales CDC and Troop Medical Clinic. Community Health Nursing, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Health Physics and Industrial Hygiene are all components within the Department of Preventive Medicine. It offers a wide variety of services that include Tuberculosis screening, overseas travel evaluations, HIV education and health promotion services (e.g., tobacco cessation). In addition, Preventive Medicine conducts sanitary inspections, monitors health issues for Child Development Services and monitors pest prevalence and communicable diseases. Occupational Health and Community Health Nursing also are components of the Preventive Medicine Service.
