171st Infantry Brigade
171st Infantry Brigade is the largest permanent party command on Fort Jackson. The brigade includes Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Soldiers as well as Forces Command (FORSCOM) Soldiers. The brigade provides administrative command and control to the Soldiers assigned to Fort Jackson’s Headquarters and special staff sections.

The brigade also assists drill sergeants and company commanders from the basic combat training battalions in conducting specialized and tactical instruction, including map reading, first aid, rifle marksmanship and communications training as well as combat indoctrination training. 171st Infantry Brigade has assigned the subject- matter experts key in TRADOC’s Initial Entry Training strategy and maintains first-class, state-of-the-art training ranges using computerized scoring systems.

171st Infantry Brigade consists of: 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment (formerly the Victory Support Battalion); 120th Adjutant General Reception Battalion; 187th Ordinance Battalion; Victory University, consisting of the Pre-Command Course and the Company Commander/ First Sergeant Course; and the United States Army Drill Sergeant School. (Note: Under the Fort Jackson Center of Excellence concept, the pre-command course, Victory University and the Drill Sergeant School no longer fall under 171st Infantry Brigade. Within these /ve distinct elements of 171st Infantry Brigade, thousands of Soldiers are serviced and trained every day.)

HHC 171st Infantry Brigade
The HHC provides unit administration and logistical support for the Brigade Staff Sections and provides the operating personnel to support the functional requirements for the HQ Staff and Commander. The HHC Commander is responsible for discipline, security, training and administration of personnel assigned to the HHC. The Commander is also responsible for unit level supply activities and manages support facilities in the Brigade area.

187th Ordnance Battalion,
“Geared to Maintain”
The 187th Ordnance Battalion was first constituted May 1, 1936, in the Regular Army as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 3rd Battalion, 54th Quartermaster Regiment. The unit was redesignated on Oct. 7, 1942, as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 187th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Battalion, but was inactivated in 1945.

As a result of the U.S. Army Regimental System, the headquarters was transferred in 1987 to TRADOC. Originally assigned to the 4th Training Brigade at the U.S. Army Training Center at Fort Jackson, it was activated and organized for its present training mission with 171st Infantry Brigade of producing specialists in light and heavy wheeled vehicle repair and additional skills in vehicle recovery.

The 187th Ordnance Battalion is the only unit in TRADOC which trains and produces apprentice level Light Wheel Vehicle (63BMOS — 10 weeks) and Heavy Wheel Vehicle (63S MOS — nine weeks) mechanics for the operational Army. Once Soldiers graduate from the 63B or 63S AIT courses, they are able to perform unit-level maintenance in the areas of troubleshooting, fuel systems, electrical systems, power trains, chassis/suspension and steering systems, brake systems and Preventive Maintenance Checks and Service.

The 187th Ordnance Battalion also operates one of only three additional skill-identifier courses in TRADOC that awards the “H8” recovery specialist identifier for Soldiers in the active National Guard and enlisted Reserve Component forces.

4-10 INF
Victory Support Battalion was re-flagged to 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment in the spring of 2009. Originally established as Task Force Victory on Jan. 1, 1998, and activated as it currently stands on July 29, 2005. Victory Support Battalion was established from units assigned/attached to the 171st Infantry Brigade.

Its mission includes the Headquarters, Fort Jackson and its mission related staff sections that support Fort Jackson’s Initial Entry Training Mission. Task Force Victory consists of Company A; Company B; the 282nd Army “Victory” Band; United States Army Student Detachment, and the 748th Ordnance Company, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).  Victory Support Battalion is the largest and most diverse unit on Fort Jackson, serving multiple missions on Fort Jackson and all over the world.

Task Force Marshall
Task Force Marshall, named in honor of citizen- soldier and trainer Gen. George C. Marshall, was formed with the sole mission of providing basic skills refresher training to mobilized Individual Ready Reserve Soldiers.

TFM is a battalion-sized training force made up of mobilized U.S. Army Reserve units from North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia and Louisiana. TFM headquarters consists of command and control elements originally from the 1/518th Regiment, 108th Division (Institutional Training) from Asheville, N.C., and operates now as a member of 171st Infantry Brigade, United States Army Training Center & Fort Jackson. TFM is based at Camp McCrady, S.C.

Alpha Company/4-10 INF
Alpha Company provides post training and support by providing personnel to the Installation Command Group; Staff Judge Advocate; Inspector General, G3; 171st Infantry Brigade; Victory Support Battalion and other staff sections on the installation.

Bravo Company/4-10 INF
Bravo Company provides direct support of the Fort Jackson mission of training Soldiers. This company provides personnel to serve as range cadre on all installation Basic rifle Marksmanship Ranges, Combat Indoctrination Ranges, and instructors for the General Subjects Committee. Every Soldier trained on Fort Jackson is instructed and supported by the members of Bravo Company as they work in conjunction with Basic and Advanced Individual Training Battalions to ensure the Army receives the best trained Warriors in the world.

282nd Army “Victory” Band/
Victory Support Battalion

One of Fort Jackson’s most colorful units, the 282nd U.S. Army “Victory” Band, provides countless hours of entertainment for military and civilian audiences throughout the area. Consisting of some 40 Soldier-musicians, the band can provide a marching, stage or concert band or a small combo. Its major function is to provide musical support for all military ceremonies, such as basic combat training graduations, retirement reviews, command retreats and other functions that are part of the installation routine. The band also participates in festivals and other civilian functions throughout South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia in support of community relations and Army recruiting programs.

United States Army Student
Detachment/Victory Support Battalion

The United States Army Student Detachment (USASD) provides command and control to more than 1,500 senior Army officers attending civilian colleges and universities worldwide, including the Air and Naval War Colleges and the Command and Staff Colleges. They also support those officers and enlisted personnel serving in the Training with Industry program. USASD links the student, the military personnel center and the Army Finance community.

748th Ordnance Company,
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)

The 748th Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, attached to Fort Jackson since 1956, serves the state of South Carolina and Fort Gordon, Ga. The 748th EOD provides service to the installation as well as to law enforcement agencies throughout its area of operations to render safe and dispose of any hazardous military explosive material. In addition, it also handles all military chemical and nuclear ordnance and responds to incidents that involve improvised explosive devices. The 23-member unit also provides training seminars for military and civilian law enforcement agencies, and often assists the Secret Service and State Department in providing protective security for the president, vice president, foreign heads of state and other VIPs who visit the area. The 748th EOD maintains a response team on a 24-hour basis year-round.

120th Adjutant General Battalion
(Reception)

This battalion receives Basic Combat Training recruits, processes them into the Army, begins the Soldierization process and sends them on to one of Fort Jackson’s training battalions. The battalion also conducts pre-basic combat fitness training for new Soldiers who do not meet the minimum physical fitness standards to enter Basic Combat Training. The reception battalion also processes prior service Soldiers back into the Army. The 120th Adjutant General Battalion (Reception) consists of a headquarters Company, Company A, Company B, Company C, Company D and the Fitness Training Company (FTC), which supports basic training and advanced individual training in both the Fitness Training Unit (FTU) and the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Program (PTRP).

Directorate of Basic Combat Training
The Directorate of Basic Combat Training (DBCT) develops, refines and supports Basic Combat Training (BCT) across the United States Army Accessions Command (USAAC) through doctrine, education, research, training support and acts as the proponent for BCT, Drill Sergeant Program, IET Reception, IET Leader Education and Training (Victory University) Courses, Army Physical Readiness, and Warrior Transition Course (WTC) to ensure BCT is as effective and world class as possible. The Directorate achieves outcomes from strategic and critical thinking that determine the right tasks, drills and support systems for BCT.

To accomplish its mission, the Directorate of Basic Combat Training is organized into the following sections:
Doctrine and Training Development provides the most current doctrine and training development, derived from strategic and critical thinking, for Basic Combat Training (BCT), Drill Sergeant Program (DSP), Warrior Transition Course (WTC), and IET Reception Program in order to support Initial Entry Training for the U.S. Army.

Leader Development and Training and Training Support (Victory University) plans, assesses and reviews IET Leader and Cadre Training Programs developed and implemented for Initial Entry Training. Advises the BCT COE Commanding General on training development of IET Cadre Training and assists all training installations in cadre training programs.

Experimentation and Analysis Element (EAE) provides support in the Initial Entry Training environment to increase Soldier performance and reduce attrition through applied research, education and cooperative associations with other organizations and agencies.

Army Research Institute Cell improves the acquisition and retention of individual Soldier skills and values in IET and institutional training programs supported by Fort Jackson through research advances in training methods and training outcomes measurement.

Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) Representative collects, analyzes, disseminates, integrates and archives Army and Joint, Inter-agency, Intergovernmental and Multinational (JIIM) Observations, Insights, Lessons (OIL) and Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP) to support Initial Military Training at Fort Jackson and across Basic Combat Training.

Army Center for Enhanced Performance (ACEP) Cell provides Peak Performance instruction to the Drill Sergeant School, Basic Combat Training, DSS, BCT and other Ft. Jackson units in order to enhance soldier effectiveness through systematic training and development of key mental skills.

Headquarters, U.S. Army Garrison,
Installation Management Agency

The Fort Jackson Garrison is commanded by an Army colonel, and is under the command and control of the U.S. Army Installation Management Agency – Southeast Region, which is located at Fort McPherson (Atlanta), Ga.

Garrison/Installation
Directorates and Staff

Fort Jackson’s installation support functions are provided by the United States Army Garrison and like all Army installations operate under the direction of the Installation Management Command. The Garrison commander reports to the director, Southeast Region, Installation Management Command and the commanding general in his role as installation commander. The installation has a wide range of support directorates and activities with the mission of supporting the community’s objectives. Each directorate or activity plays a key part in conducting the business of Fort Jackson.

Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC) CPAC provides advisory services on all areas of civilian personnel to include labor/management employee relations, recruitment and placement, training and development, position management/classification, benefits and Workers’ Compensation. Directorate of Contracting
Located in Building 4340 on Hill and Magruder streets, the Directorate of Contracting (DoC) provides purchasing/contracting support for supplies services and construction to installation and satellite activities. The DoC also performs the planning soliciting execution and administration of supplies, services, and construction procurements. Part of its mission includes ensuring that all statutory requirements are met and providing mobilization planning and support. For information about DoC, call 751-4140.

Directorate of Information Management
The Directorate of Information Management (DoIM) is located at 3390 Magruder Ave. and comprises the Service Management Division, Information Technology Systems Support Division and Information Assurance Division. DoIM is responsible for providing secure, reliable and responsive service for management of the installation’s information technology functional areas i.e., automation, local area networks, full-service telephone operations, network security, video-teleconferencing, visual information and logistics (acquisitions and life cycle management of systems). The directorate’s staff identifies and support the customer’s needs by leveraging technology and cost effective solutions and standards supporting the largest and most active Initial Entry Training Center in the United States Army in its quest to train in a demanding and realistic environment. Directorate of Logistics
DoL serves as principal adviser to the Fort Jackson Garrison Commander and staff on all matters pertaining to the Directorate of Logistics (DoL). Directs and provides operational control of supply, maintenance, and transportation support which includes contingency plans, laundry, food service, consolidated installation property book, supplies and services, maintenance and movement of material and personnel to and from the installation and satellite activities. Directorate of Human Resources
The Directorate of Human Resources (DHR) encompasses the Adjutant General (AG) Division, Army Community Education Services (ACES), Administrative Services Division (ASD), Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) and the Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP). All activities, except ACES, ASAP and ACAP, of the DHR are located in Building 5450 on Strom Thurmond Boulevard. Normal office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; ID Card Section hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; ACES hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; ASD hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; ASAP hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and ACAP hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. DHR is responsible for providing technical oversight and an integrated Human Resources Management Program support for Fort Jackson and tenant organizations assigned to Fort Jackson. The AG Division manages and provides policy guidance on officer, warrant officer and enlisted personnel actions. Directorate of Resource Management
(DRM) – Garrison

Located in Building 2600, on the corner of Lee and Washington, the DRM maintains staff responsibility for both financial and manpower resources in accordance with FM 100-22, Installation Management for the Fort Jackson Garrison. DRM directs and coordinates program and budget formulation, execution and control; serves as liaison and manages installation resource matters; supports organizational management; manages and coordinates manpower and equipment programs; manages the Army Travel Card Program, Defense Travel System (DTS) Program, Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), Bank Liaison and the Installation Internal Review Program. Inspector General
The mission of the Inspector General is to enhance mission readiness by inquiring and reporting into matters of mission performance, discipline, morale, efficiency and economy. The IG conducts and reports upon inspections required by law and regulation or directed by the commanding general. Additionally, the IG receives and acts on requests for assistance from Soldiers, family members and DoD civilians and answers inquiries made to the 751-FAIR hotline. Directorate of Emergency Services
The Directorate of Emergency Services is assigned to the office of the Garrison Commander and comprises Soldiers, civilian employees and the support personnel. DES is located in the Emergency Service Center (Building 5499) on the corner of Jackson Boulevard and Hill Street. The directorate’s organizational structure includes the Provost Marshal’s Office (PMO), 17th Military Police Detachment, Fort Jackson Fire Department and the Emergency 911 Center.

Provost Marshal’s Office (PMO)
The Provost Marshal’s Office is part of the Directorate of Emergency Services and is assigned to the office of the garrison commander. It comprises military police Soldiers, Department of the Army police officers, contract security guards, civilian employees and support personnel. The PMO performs a myriad of duties and functions including vehicle registration, police administration, traffic accident investigations, Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE), civil liaison and AWOL apprehension, Military Police Investigations (MPI), military working dogs (MWD), game warden, installation access control, physical security, crime prevention, lost and found property and investigating and reporting criminal activity on the installation.

The PMO plays an integral role in the successful outcome of a multitude of post-wide events such as weekly graduations and the yearly Torchlight Tattoo celebration by managing the flow of traffic and parking during these events. The PMO is the focal point in promoting traffic safety on the installation by routinely conducting sobriety and contraband checkpoints, speed-enforcement operations and conducting random gate searches. The MWD section assists units and organizations on the installation with health and welfare inspections, building searches for unsecured buildings and other such requests as needed. With an emphasis on community support and safety for resident Soldiers and their families, the PMO provides bicycle patrols in the housing areas using assets from COPS and provides an active DARE program to the DoD schools on Fort Jackson.
