What is Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation?
Today's Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation mission is to honor the Soldiers who protect our freedom by providing them and their families with the same quality of life given to the society they are pledged to defend. The FMWR employees at Fort Lewis are dedicated to providing support and leisure services as outstanding as the people they serve. In striving to deliver the highest-quality programs and services - from sports, recreation and entertainment to child and youth programs - FMWR partners with community sponsors. The generous support of our sponsors gives Soldiers a much-needed balance of work and play.

The Fort Lewis FMWR Marketing Office is responsible for promoting FMWR facilities and events through the design and distribution of posters and fliers and additional publicity via FortLewisMWR.com, the Fort Lewis Focus monthly newsletter, plasma TVs, electronic reader boards and banners and signs. Dining and Entertainment Catering
The Five Star Catering Office is located in the American Lake Community Center on North Fort Lewis. Wedding receptions, promotion parties, banquets and special events can be held at any of the post facilities listed below. Arrangements can be made by calling the Catering Office at 964-1209.

Dining
The Cascade Community Center is open to everyone and offers lunch Monday through Friday. It offers selections from the grill as well as hot daily lunch specials and a salad bar. Enjoy an afternoon at Heroes Sports Lounge - watch a game on one of the big-screen hi-definition plasma TVs while you enjoy cold beverages and hot appetizers. The Lewis, Clark and Olympic rooms are available for private parties and other functions. For additional information on the CCC, call 964-0331. The facility also houses a barber shop that is open to everyone.

Overlooking beautiful American Lake, the American Lake Community Center is available for private functions such as wedding receptions, conferences and unit functions. Russell Landing Café is located on North Fort Lewis on the shores of American Lake in Bldg. 8981. The café, which is open during the week, offers quality food, good prices and friendly service. Enjoy the daily or weekly lunch special, or try the popular taco salad. Patio seating overlooking the lake is available. Call 966-0400 for additional information. Located in the old Madigan Army Medical Center area in Bldg. 9903, the café features quick-serve breakfast and lunch during the week and Latin Sensations, where you can salsa dance the night away each Friday. Madigan Café can be reached at 964-4054. The club is also available for private parties. Club North, which is located on North Fort Lewis, offers themed entertainment and events. Whether you enjoy country, R&B or hip-hop music, Club North has a night for you. Call 964-0144 for more information.

Eagles Pride Golf Course
The Eagles Pride Golf Course at Fort Lewis, just three miles southwest of the Main Gate on I-5, provides a 27-hole championship golf course, driving range and practice facility. After enjoying a challenging yet fun round of golf, stop by Lacey Creek Café. In addition to a wonderful menu, the café offers in-house catering for your next meeting, party or reception. Bowl Arena
The Bowl Arena, located at South 12th Street and Liggett in Bldg. 2272, features 40 lanes with computerized scoring, a pro shop, snack bar, game room and wireless Internet access. Leagues are available for children, amateurs, women, men and military units. The arena is open to all Soldiers, retirees, families and post employees and guests. Call 967-4661 for more information.

Especially Espresso Shops
There are three Especially Espresso shops located on Fort Lewis. The main store is located in the Leisure Travel Center, which houses the bus terminal, Bldg. 2166 (964- 8838). The North Fort Lewis store is on the corner of D and 17th streets in Bldg. 11589 (964-8837). The third store is located in the Stone Education Center, Bldg. 6242 on Colorado Avenue (964-8152). All stores serve our own specially roasted coffee, our Battle Bean coffee blend, and all stores offer sandwiches, gourmet snack items and packages of our own roasted ground coffee.Recreation Most recreation facilities on Fort Lewis are operated by the Community Recreation Division. Soldiers, retirees, family members, civilian employees and their guests are eligible to use the facilities.

Sports and Fitness Centers
The administrative office for the sports and fitness centers directs a complete athletic program for men and women. The company intramural athletic program includes women's and men's sports. Regular classes are held on post to learn aerobic exercise, weight training and more. Call 967-2604 for additional information. Certified personal trainers offer services free of charge to help you get started on a fitness regimen. Cowan and Memorial stadiums, Bldg. 2170, include football and softball facilities and an all-weather track. Athletic fields are located in four different areas: across from Wilson Sports and Fitness Center, at Cemetery Road and 2nd Division Drive, behind Soldiers Field House, adjacent to Keeler Gym and the Sheridan Complex. Soldiers Field House, Building 3236, located just off 2nd Division Drive, is the largest sports facility on post. It houses a gym, three basketball/volleyball courts, free weights, Nautilus circuit, BodyMaster circuit machines, LifeCircuit machines, two racquetball courts, outdoor tennis courts, aerobic machines and men's and women's saunas. McVeigh Sports and Fitness Center, located in Bldg. 2160 on Liggett Avenue, can be reached at 967-5869. McVeigh is one of the best-equipped weightlifting facilities in the Pacifi c Northwest. It houses two indoor tennis courts, indoor racquetball courts, climbing wall, Nautilus circuit, LifeCircuit machines, BodyMaster circuit machines, free weights, a mat area, aerobic machines and men's and women's saunas. Kimbro Memorial Pool is located in McVeigh Sports and Fitness Center. Please call 967-5026 for additional information to include recreation swim hours.

Sheridan Sports and Fitness Center, located in Bldg. 3759 on Stryker Avenue, has a basketball/volleyball court, a racquetball court, Nautilus circuit, free weights and a coed sauna. The phone number is 967-7311. Jensen Family Health and Fitness Center offers on-site child care while you participate in fitness activities at the facility. The child care is offered on a space-available basis for children 6 weeks through 12 years of age. Age-appropriate activities and supervision will be provided by qualifi ed CYS care-giving staffers. Food service will not be provided. If children are not already registered with CYS, parents may register on-site for this child care program only. For additional information on what parents need to provide while their children are in this child care program, call 967-1254. This center also houses an indoor track, basketball/volleyball courts, BodyMaster multi-station machine, an aerobic studio and steam room facilities. The phone number is 967-5975. Wilson Sports and Fitness Center is located on D Street just off 41st Division Drive in Bldg. 11596. Wilson has basketball/volleyballs courts, two outdoor tennis courts, free weights, LifeFitness circuit, LifeCircuit machines, aerobic machines and men's and women's saunas. The Wilson Sports and Fitness Center houses the new Hi-Tech Wilson Recreation Center, which offers no-cost recreation for Soldiers. Enjoy big-screen TV viewing on a 73-inch screen, pool, shuffleboard, gaming computers, Xbox 360s, a lounge, library computer allowing you to request books for delivery and more. Keeler Sports and Fitness Center, located in Bldg. 9993 on Garfield Street, offers basketball/volleyball courts, two racquetball courts, two outdoor tennis courts, MedX circuit machines, aerobic machines and men's and women's saunas. The number to Keeler Sports and Fitness Center is 967-6808. Keeler Pool, which is located in Keeler Sports and Fitness Center, can be reached at 967-6652. Activities offered at Keeler Pool include unit training.

Outdoor Recreation
Outdoor Recreation facilities are spread across Fort Lewis, encompassing 800 acres of land. On-post lakes provide picnicking and fishing opportunities. The Adventure Program Office offers a wide range of outdoor adventure trips for Soldiers and their families. Activities are led by competent and professional guides, and most trips are designed for the novice adventurer. Some of the wide range of activities offered are cross-country ski trips, downhill ski and snowboard trips and snowshoeing trips during the winter months. Mountain biking, whitewater rafting, sea kayaking, hiking, caving and fishing trips are just some of the other trips offered during the spring and summer months. Adventure Programs can also customize these activities to create private trips for units, family readiness groups and family groups. Soldiers, retirees, civilian employees, their families and guests are eligible to use the facilities.

The recreation areas available include a fitness trail with exercise stations; Solo Point, a saltwater boat launch site on Puget Sound; Chambers Lake; Lewis Lake; scenic picnic and primitive camping areas; Tall Firs picnic area on American Lake; and Miller Hill recreation area.

A Washington state fishing license is required to fish, either on or off post. A Washington state hunting license is also required to hunt both on and off post. Licenses are available for purchase at the Northwest Adventure Center.

Fort Lewis also boasts an Army Travel Camp and log cabins. The travel camp includes sites with blacktop pads, sewer, power and cable TV, as well as commons with laundry and shower facilities. Reservations are accepted year round. The log cabins are situated on the shores of American Lake, offering a complete kitchen, restroom with shower and linens and towels with daily maid service.

Russell Landing Marina is located on the northwestern side of Beachwood on American Lake Avenue. It offers year-round, wet/ dry moorage based on boat length. There is a minimal fee for launching a boat. The tackle and bait shop offers not only live critters and a few selected fishing items, but also a variety of retail products from assorted chips and candies to ice and beverages. The Marina offers motorized boat rentals ranging from the new pontoon boat to 16-footer aluminum boats. Renters must be 18 years of age and have a military or DOD ID card.

A boating safety card is a must for renting and can be simultaneously obtained free of charge after completing a video class. All pavilion reservations and rentals are also being arranged at Russell Landing. All rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis. For reservations and information call 967-2510.

Shoreline Park, which is located on the west end of Beachwood Housing on Beach Road, is a beautiful seasonal swimming area, staffed with lifeguards for safety. It has a snack bar, which offers not only conventional food and beverages, but also takes care of the fun boat rentals, including pedal boats, kayaks and canoes. Boat cards are not required to rent non-motorized boats but a minimum of 14 years of age and military or DOD ID card are still a must. Pavilions located at the park are being rented and reserved at the Russell Landing Marina. For reservations and more details, call 967-2510.

Northwest Adventure Center, Bldg. 8050 on NCO Beach Road, is a state-of-the- art facility offering sporting goods, firearms and ammunition and camping and fishing equipment, as well as whitewater and sea kayaks. The center boasts the military's only PADI* five-star instructor development center where safety is a top priority. SCUBA diving classes include the basic open-water course, advanced open water course, rescue, dive master, master scuba diver and dive instructor. We offer a full line of high-quality dive equipment, including Aqua Lung, Aeris, TUSA, Harvey's, SUUNTO, OMS, Sealife, Underwater Kinetics, Seavision, XS Scuba, USIA, McNett, SpareAir, Niterider, Ideations and Pelican.

We also have a large rental department where divers can rent everything from booties to masks. All the equipment is checked by the staff to ensure that it works correctly prior to being put on the rental rack. The dive shop is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call the SCUBA shop at 967-3405.

The NAC also boasts a complete outdoor equipment rental program that includes boats, camping equipment and more. The center offers classes and clinics for many of the outdoor pursuits that can be found in Washington. NAC controls hunting opportunities on post, which require a safety briefing, and houses the Outdoor Recreation administrative offices and provides adventure outings of all kinds and year-round paint ball fields. Fort Lewis boasts one of the finest skeet ranges in the Army. It offers six skeet fields, four trap fields with duck tower, five stand and wobble skeet, monthly sporting clay competitions and registered skeet compactions. The newly remodeled clubhouse offers shooting sports resale and a snack bar. The rifle range has 30 lanes, 10- to 300-yard targets and covered shooting benches. Nelson Recreation Center
Nelson Recreation Center is a multipurpose facility with a game room, sound-proof music booths and a state-of-the-art technology room. Play a game of pool or Xbox 360, or watch a movie. The center is home to the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers office. To get involved with BOSS, call 967- 5636. There is a second BOSS office located at Hi-Tech Wilson Rec (see Wilson Sports & Fitness Center). Rooms are available for groups and other private functions.
