Marine Corps Logistics Command (LOGCOM) is the largest tenant
organization aboard the Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Ga.
With its headquarters element in Albany, under the command of Maj.
Gen. Willie J. Williams, LOGCOM provides customized, strategic, tactical
and operational logistical support to the Marine Corps.
LOGCOM is the heart of Marine Corps logistics. It provides worldwide, integrated
logistics/supply chain and distribution management to the Operating Forces' strategic prepositioning
of materiel and depot-level maintenance management. LOGCOM's ability to change its
focus to the varying needs of the Warfighter, while maintaining its current core competencies, has
established it as a world class logistics organization.
LOGCOM is comprised of four command elements. Two are the Department of Defense's premier
multi-commodity maintenance centers—Maintenance Center Albany, located in Albany, Ga.; and
Maintenance Center Barstow, located in Barstow, Calif. The two maintenance centers provide a balanced
east/west coast presence. Both centers work closely with the headquarters elements to ensure
their missions and core competencies are met.
LOGCOM Forward, the third LOGCOM element, consists of a Headquarters element, a Forward
In-Stores team, a retrograde team and a Limited Technical Inspection team. This forward presence
in Iraq and Kuwait provides the Marine Expeditionary Forces with a direct liaison and immediate
support capability from LOGCOM. Additionally, maintenance contact teams routinely deploy to
meet various emergent requirements throughout the areas of responsibility.
The fourth LOGCOM command element, Blount Island Command (BIC), located in Jacksonville,
Fla., is the hub of the Marine Corps' prepositioning program and a key enabler to the expeditionary
forces. BIC is the provider of maintenance and support of all Maritime Prepositioned Ships. Blount
Island is a strategic asset for the Marine Corps, providing technical assistance to Marine Expeditionary
Force commanders for all aspects of planning and deployment; and maritime prepositioning
allows flexibility and direct support during a crisis anywhere in the world. Access to a large industrial
base and Navy support structure provide an advantage not readily available at other sites. The private
slipway with five large vessel berths, just seven miles from the St. John's River outlet, presents an excellent site for off-loading Maritime Prepositioned
Ships. Whether providing humanitarian
relief or prepositioning equipment for war, BIC
is an essential pillar to the LOGCOM mission.
LOGCOM takes significant pride in being the
effective logistics service broker by providing
logistics solutions and integration. We provide
services, knowledge management, logistics
operations opportunity, maintenance, performance
and distribution management to the operating
forces and program managers within
Marine Corps Systems Command. Utilizing
forward-deployed liaisons at Marine Forces
Reserve, Marine Expeditionary Forces, Pacific
Forces, and MarCorSysCom, LOGCOM utilizes
the "sense-and respond" capabilities by
adapting and anticipating enemy efforts and
providing proactive support to our Warfighters.
The LOGCOM organization structure includes
the Logistics Capabilities Center, Program Support
Center, the Supply Management Center,
Maintenance Management Center, Distribution
Management Center, and Logistics Operations
Center. LOGCOM has an enterprise workforce of
more than 4,700 military and civilian personnel
and an annual budget of $1.8 billion. Whether
stationed in Albany, Ga.; Barstow, Calif.; Jacksonville,
Fla.; or Al Taqaddam, Iraq; LOGCOM
employees have the single focus of "Providing
Logistics Solutions to the Warfighter."
