Child and Youth Programs
Naval Base Kitsap Child Development Centers (CDC) offer center-based care for children up to 5 years old. Care at our centers is primarily geared toward those needing full-time child care. Our centers are based on the developmental program model that focuses on play and its importance in a child’s learning process. Our centers are also a part of the 7 percent of programs in the United States accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
The Child Development Home (CDH) program has 30 homes throughout the area certified by the Navy Child Development Programs to provide child care to youth up to 12 years old. They provide the same level of high-quality care found in our on-base centers, but are often able to offer a little more flexibility in services. In addition, all parents enrolled enjoy a reduction of 20 percent off the CDC fees. Not only are our homes required to meet Navy child care guidelines, a number of our homes are also licensed by the state of Washington. Child care providers offer developmental programs and receive training and unannounced home visits on a monthly basis. We offer full-time, part-time, drop-in, duty and weekend care, and a child care subsidy is available for children from birth to 12 years old. We also now offer hourly child care for all eligible military personnel. The hourly child care program is designed for children age 6 weeks to 12 years.
School-Age Care (SAC) programs are a place where children will be able to meet new friends, learn new skills and participate in many activities. Most programs offer extended-hour care, and fees are based on Total Household Income (THI). Registration is taken directly at each facility.
Teen Centers are open to ages 12 to 18 in grades seven through 12. After becoming a member of our open recreation program, teens can participate in activities such as video games, air hockey, board games, team sports or have online computer access. Explore individual interests by becoming involved with our Boys & Girls Clubs and 4-H programs: Fine Arts, Cooking Club, Science, Keystone, Job Ready, Career Launch and more. Head out of town on trips to places like Family Fun Center in Tukwila, Fort Worden State Park, bowling, movies, Experience the Music Project Museum in Seattle, ice skating and much more. The Teen Program also hosts Teen Late Nights, lock-ins, family events and dances.

Please call ahead or check our website for hours and details about public programs offered at the Puget Sound Navy Museum.
Naval Undersea Museum
The Naval Undersea Museum is the only official Navy museum that interprets all of the Navy’s undersea activities. Try your hand at driving a submarine in the real control room from USS Greenling (SSN-614) or explore physical properties of the ocean though hands-on interactives. View hundreds of artifacts that represent over 150 years of undersea history and technology, including the best collection of torpedoes in the country, submarine equipment, rare diving gear, and ROVs. And don’t miss the museum’s biggest attractions (literally) — its many macro artifacts, which include DSRV Mystic, Trieste II (DSV-1), Deep Quest, and a submarine rescue chamber. With 20,000 square feet of exhibits, there’s something for everyone!
The Naval Undersea Museum also offers a variety of public programs, especially STEM programs for children, to connect visitors to the Navy’s rich undersea history and technology.
Located outside the main gate of NUWC Keyport, the museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (closed on Tuesdays from October to April). For more information, visit www.navalunderseamuseum.org or call 360-396-4148.
