The Operations Department is responsible
for the critical missions of the airfield operations,
air traffic control, emergency crash operations,
organizational level maintenance of
four HH-1N "Huey" helicopters, and search
and rescue missions.
ATC provides a full range of air traffic
control services to both military and civilian
aircraft. They are primarily responsible for the
safe conduct of local and Special Use Airspace
operations of embarked squadrons, carrier air
wings and Marine Corps air groups. ATC
provides services for more than 13,200 square
miles of special-use airspace, which include
eight restricted areas and 11 Military
Operations Areas (MOAs).
The Fleet Liaison Division is responsible for
the operational and administrative scheduling of east and west coast carrier air wings, Marine air
groups and independent squadron deployments.
Aviation boatswain mates provide customer
service and hot refueling to transient aircraft
while maintaining more than 221 maintenance
and office spaces for two hangar and four service
buildings. The Fleet Liaison Division consists of
one officer and 35 enlisted Sailors, committed to
excellence and quality service to the Fleet.
The Longhorn Search and Rescue (SAR)
team is responsible for providing emergency
rescue service for the Fallon range complex.
The crew also works closely with civilian law
enforcement agencies and hospitals to assist in
local rescue efforts. In 2000, Longhorn aircrews
executed 27 search and rescue medevac events,
saving 22 lives in the process. SAR's area of
responsibility covers Northern Nevada, parts of
surrounding states that range from Susanville,
Calif. south to Bishop, Calif. and from
Lemoore, Calif. to Salt Lake City, Utah.
NAS Fallon's 46-person Fire Department
provides fire suppression, crash/rescue, confined
space rescue and emergency medical responses
for the entire base as well as mutual aid response
for the surrounding community. The Fire
Department's arsenal division includes three
crash trucks, three pumper-vehicles and numerous
pieces of support equipment.
The NAS Fallon Public Works Department is
a field office of Naval Facilities Engineering
Command, Southwest. The Public Works Officer
(PWO) is double hated as the Resident Officer in
Charge of Construction (ROICC). The department
is comprised of four Civil Engineer Corps
Officers, one Seabee Senior Chief, and over
thirty civilian Engineers, Engineer Technicians,
Contract Specialists, and Office Assistants. The
department has three divisions: Facilities
Management, Facilities Engineering and
Acquisition, and Production/ Maintenance.
The Facilities Management Division is
responsible for the planning of future facility
upgrades to the station. It is also responsible for
maintaining all property records and base
maps. The division is also responsible for community
management. This includes representing
the stations interests to the city and county
on Real Estate and zoning matters as well as
preventing encroachment.
The Facilities Engineering and Acquisition
Division is responsible for the design, acquisition,
and construction administration of all
facilities improvement projects on board
station. It coordinates the efforts of all Seabee
units on station on behalf of the Public Works
Officer. It is also responsible for the procurement
of all Facilities Services contract, including
the Base Operations Support (BOS)
contract. The BOS contractor performs a wide
variety of functions including: facility maintenance,
barracks operation, flight line services,
transportation, and ground electronics. The
division also provides construction and service
contract oversight for Naval Operation Support
Centers in Reno, Salt Lake City, Denver, and
Ft. Carson, Colo. as well as the Marine Corps
Reserve Center in Riverton, Utah, and to the
Strategic Systems Programs Detachment in
Magna, Utah.
The Production/Maintenance Division provides
oversight for all contracted maintenance
on board station. This includes serving as facilities
service and maintenance liaisons for all
tenant and department clients. The division
processes maintenance work orders and develops

Known as Ordnance Town USA, the weapons
detachment (det.) ensures timely procurement,
storage, assembly and issue of all ordnance and
explosives. All weapons evolutions are conducted
in direct support of the commands
mission tasking. The weapons det. is responsible
for efficient operation and maintenance of
assigned magazines and associated handling
equipment. Consisting of four divisions, weapons
personnel work to provide safe stowage, maintenance,
assembly/disassembly, inspection, issue
and receipt of all conventional ordnance. This
directly supports Navy and Marine Corps aviation
activities, including carrier air wings,
Marine Corps air groups, aircraft carrier weapons
assembly teams and tenant commands.
Additionally, the weapons det. provides logistic
support of all of NAS Fallon's ranges and deploying
Air Force and Army elements.
NAS Fallon's Administration Department
provides correspondence control, leave processing,
Plan of the Day, message routing, instruction
files and personnel check-in/check-out services
to NAS Departments and tenant commands.
In addition, the Organization Effectiveness
Center coordinates and instructs Base
Indoctrination, CPR, Leadership Training
Continuum and motorcycle safety training.
The Print Shop provides reprographics and
printing services to all station commands and
visiting squadrons.
