Housing
Housing in the Monterey area is among the most expensive in the country. Affordable off-installation housing is limited. Rental properties in the Monterey Peninsula area range from $900 for an unfurnished one-bedroom apartment to $2,100 for a house. Most landlords do not accept pets, the ones that do normally charge between $100 and $250 in additional deposits, plus a monthly charge. Generally, expect to pay the first and last month’s rent, up front, or a deposit plus the rent.

Military Housing Services Office
Active Duty Military should report to the Housing Services Office located at Ord Military Community prior to visiting a property manager or making any arrangements for housing. The Housing Services Office is your first stop before you sign a lease for housing. The Housing Services Office will assist with information regarding Privatized Housing, off-post housing, short term rentals and in some cases with home buying. Directions to the Military Housing Services Office (Building 4250) From HWY 1 (North or South) take Lightfighter Drive. After second signal light and before third signal light, merge right on Gen Jim Moore Blvd. Stay in far left lane. After the first signal light (intersection Gigling Road) turn left at the first island.

Privatized Military Housing
The military housing in the area, known as The Parks at Monterey Bay, is managed by Pinnacle, an American Management Company. Telephone (831) 644-0400 or (800) 334-9168. http://www.theparksatmontereybay.com The Parks at Monterey Bay housing neighborhoods are located near the Naval Postgraduate School, Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanographic Center, the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, and the Coast Guard Stations in Seaside and Monterey, Calif. These military housing neighborhoods are managed by Pinnacle to provide residents with extraordinary customer service. Many homes have ocean views and all are perfectly located to take advantage of the tremendous amenities available both within and outside the military neighborhoods. Golf courses, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, beaches, excellent restaurants, and access to outdoor recreational activities are all nearby. The Parks at Monterey Bay welcomes all eligible military personnel, both accompanied and unaccompanied. Families and singles can choose from over 2,200 homes.

From family cottages, to suites to single rooms ... our variety of accommodations come completely furnished with all the trimmings to fit all of your travel needs. Room rates range from $62 to $100 per night (rates subject to change). Rates are based on single occupancy. There is a charge for each additional occupant; $5, per night, for guests over 1 year of age. Check-in time is 3 p.m., unless your reservation is guaranteed with a credit card for late arrival. Check-out time is 11:00 am. A complimentary continental breakfast is provided and a fitness room is also available in the main room for guest use.

Medical
Family Member Health Care

The Army Health Clinic is able to offer pediatric care for family members. All other family members must be directly enrolled to civilian physicians in the surrounding community. Family members need to enroll by going to the TRICARE Service Center (TSC) located at the Stilwell Community Center, Building 4260, at Ord Military Community. The TSC is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Questions or problems with the TRICARE network should be directed to the TSC.

Postsecondary Programs
Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Associate of Arts Degree Program Service members who complete language studies in residence at DLI earn 45 semester hours toward a college degree. By completing minimal additional general education requirements, students can earn an associate degree in the language studied. For more information visit http://www.dliflc.edu.

Community College of the Air Force
The Community College of the Air Force offers associates in applied science in job-related disciplines to Airmen only. Naval Postgraduate School

Monterey Peninsula College
A two-year public community college offering a wide range of associate degree and certificate programs including an Associate of Arts in World Languages. California State University Monterey Bay
A California state university offering interdisciplinary undergraduate degrees, teaching credentials and several graduate degrees. CSUMB emphasizes applied learning, individualized study, global perspectives, and service learning on a residential campus that benefits from a diverse student population, ultramodern facilities and sophisticated technologies. Chapman University
Chapman University offers on-post classes at the Presidio of Monterey Education Center every nine weeks. The Chapman University extension in Monterey, a private institution, offers bachelor’s degrees in liberal studies, organizational leadership, social science, criminal justice and psychology. Monterey Institute of International Studies

Monterey College of Law
A California State Bar accredited community law school offering a four-year program of instruction leading to a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.

Excelsior College
A regionally accredited college in New York state, with no residency requirement, that accepts credits from regionally accredited colleges, military experience, and college-level proficiency tests towards associate, baccalaureate and master’s degrees. Education Programs
Professional Counseling Services

Guidance counselors are available to assist military personnel and adult family members with achieving educational and occupational goals. Meeting with a counselor is key to becoming acquainted with programs and services that support your needs. Counseling is available on a walk-in or appointment basis.

Functional Aptitude Skills Training Program (FAST)
FAST consists of academic instruction designed to provide Service members the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to participate effectively in the workplace and in society. Instruction is designed to improve reading, mathematics, writing, speaking, science and/or computer skills. Instruction is offered through our community adult schools at no cost, in the day and/or evening.

Vocational Programs
The Mission Trails Regional Occupational Program (ROP) provides job training to high school students, adults and out-of-school youth. ROP’s vocational education allows students to upgrade their present job skills or learn a trade.

Financial Aid Services Tuition Assistance
The Department of Defense has a uniform Tuition Assistance (TA) policy that provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education programs. Active-duty Soldiers can obtain their TA benefit by accessing http://GoArmyEd.com. The Education Center provides Tuition Assistance counsel to all Service members.

Veterans Administration (VA) Education Benefits Programs
Education Center counselors advise on the Post 9/11 GI Bill, the Montgomery GI Bill, College Fund, Veteran’s Education Assistance Program, Top-Up and other VA education benefits programs. These benefits support a variety of training including college studies, vocational schooling, apprenticeship/on-the-job training programs, correspondence study and more. Department of Defense Student Loan Repayment Program
This enlistment incentive benefits all Service members who contracted for this entitlement by repaying up to $65,000 of qualifying student loans. Eligible Service members must take an active role in initiating loan repayment and ensuring loans remain in forbearance while being repaid by the government.

There are numerous ways to finance one’s education. Ask your education professionals about in-state rates at public schools, grants, including the California Board of Governor’s Grant, student loans, work-study programs and scholarships.
