Welcome to Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) and sunny California. Located about 65 miles northwest
of downtown Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, this premier Naval installation is
composed of three operating facilities—Point Mugu, Port Hueneme and San Nicolas Island.
A major aviation shore command and a Naval Construction Force mobilization base, NBVC provides
airfield, seaport and base support services to fleet operating forces and shore activities.
Offering a unique combination of mission capabilities to the Navy and the Department of Defense
(DoD), NBVC and its tenants employ more than 6,000 civilians, 9,000 military personnel and 1,300 contract
workers. Also, NBVC hosts more than 60 tenant commands.
Strategically located in a non-encroached coastal area of Southern California, NBVC is a key element
in the DoD infrastructure because of its superior geographical location. The base provides a valuable contribution
to the operational readiness of the DoD's total force, including development and testing of new systems, joint war fighting experimentation, training,
readiness and Homeland Defense.
Point Mugu and Port Hueneme are seven miles
apart and offer a variety of recreation and entertainment
options for NBVC sailors and their families.
The region offers luscious environmental
preserves, saltwater marshlands, 6.5 miles of
beachfront property at Point Mugu and the
restored, historic Bard Mansion at Port Hueneme.
In addition, the Morale, Welfare and Recreation
program at NBVC offers a wealth of fitness and
recreational options in their effort to bring local
sailors and their families the widest variety of
recreational and leisure activities. For more information,
