Story by Joanna Bradley on 02/06/2019REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Feb. 5, 2019) The commanding general of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command stopped by Redstone Arsenal, Ala., Feb. 5 to talk to part of his workforce about the recent transition to U.S. Army Futures Command.
Maj. Gen. Cedric T. Wins joined Dr. Juanita M. Christensen, CCDC Aviation & Missile Center executive director, for a town hall at Bob Jones Auditorium.
CCDC, formerly the U.S. Army Research, Development, & Engineering Command or RDECOM, was realigned under AFC during a ceremony Jan. 31 at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. The U.S. Army Materiel Command relinquished command of CCDC at that time.
This is more than just a name change. The aligning of CCDC and its centers and labs under AFC is another step in the Army's effort to transform its approach to modernization. The goal of AFC is to develop an Army with enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in delivering necessary technologies to the Warfighter to maintain the Army's competitive advantage in every arena.
"I'm counting on you to be on board with this [change]," Wins said. "We are all-in as one unified command, as one unified organization."
The CG wanted to reassure the workforce that its contributions have been noted. Wins lauded Christensen's leadership and her workforce for leading the way when the Army leadership indicated that things needed to go in a new direction.
"We want to make sure you all understandwe fully recognize all the great work you all have done," Wins said.
The stop in Alabama was Wins' second on his roadshow where he will continue to engage with the workforce about the transition and get a better sense of and appreciation for the work they do.
The CCDC Aviation & Missile Center, formerly known as the Aviation & Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC), is part of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command, which conducts responsive research, development and life cycle engineering to deliver the aviation and missile capabilities the Army depends on to ensure victory on the battlefield today and tomorrow. Through collaboration across the command's core technical competencies, CCDC leads in the discovery, development and delivery of the technology-based capabilities required to make Soldiers more lethal to win our Nation's wars and come home safely. CCDC is a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Futures Command.
