JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -- Technical Sergeant Anthony R. Emerson, a native of San Antonio, Texas, was recently recognized by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) for "exceptionally meritorious service" as the agency's Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the Radio Frequency Work Center, Deployable Communications, Information and Technology Directorate, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, from May 2016 to May 2019.
Sergeant Emerson directly contributed to the success of 94 missions through lifecycle maintenance, which sustained $4.3 million dollars in equipment. His efforts and expertise contributed to 571 identifications from 2016-2019.
During his tour with DPAA, Sergeant Emerson deployed to seven countries in support of recovery and investigation missions in remote locations throughout the Indo-Pacific and European theaters in search of Americans missing from past conflicts dating back to World War II.
He was responsible for establishing field communication hubs that ensured optimized, timely transmissions of safety, logistics, emergency medical evacuation and daily situational reports to the Agency's Worldwide Operations Center, which enabled accurate reporting and critical services to teams in the field. Additionally, he successfully trained 24 team members which ensured successful global communications.
When American personnel remain unaccounted-for at the conclusion of hostilities, DPAA becomes the responsible agent for identifying and accounting for the missing. DPAA investigation and recovery missions may last up to 50 days, and take place up to five times per year. The purpose of these missions is integral in DPAA's mission of providing the fullest possible accounting of our missing personnel to their families and the nation.
Sergeant Emerson joined the Air Force in 2007. Prior to DPAA, he served at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (Shape), Belgium. This summer he will move to Scott AFB, Illinois to join the 375th Communications Group,
