Registering Children for School

Last Updated :

Simply go to the school and present proof of birthday and immunization against polio, diphtheria, measles, rubella, pertussis, tetanus, and mumps. Florida law requires physical examinations for all students entering the school system for the first time, regardless of grade. Any child 5 years old by Sept. 1 is eligible for public kindergarten. Children may enter first grade if they are 6 years old by Sept. 1 and have completed a kindergarten program. For details on provisions for admission, contact any elementary school or write to the appropriate county superintendent's office. To find out what school your child is zoned to attend, call (850) 833-3551 for Fort Walton Beach, (850) 833-4161 for Destin, Eglin, Niceville or (850) 689-7301 for the north county locations.
