Whether you’re looking to take in a game or cool off with a whitewater rafting trip, Bernalillo County and its surrounding areas offer a variety of recreational opportunities.

Albuquerque Isotopes
1601 Avenida Cesar Chavez SE
Albuquerque, NM 87106 505-924-225
www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t342

Albuquerque’s minor league team’s name recalls the fictional Springfield Isotopes from the long-running TV series “The Simpsons.” The team, which plays in the Pacific Coast League, is the Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. The team was previously affiliated with the Florida Marlins, from 2003 to 2008 and the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2009 to 2014. Visit www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t342 for the team schedule, roster and ticket prices.

There are also water rides like Rocky Mountain Rapids and Big Flush Water Coaster, Cliff’s WaterMania, a water play area, and lots of rides in Kiddieland to keep the little ones amused. Visit the website for park hours and ticket prices.

Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch
1 Wall Lake Road
Winston, NM 87943 575-772-5157
www.geronimoranch.com

This New Mexico dude ranch is miles away from civilization, 85 miles from the nearest stoplight to be exact, in the Gila National Forest. Horseback riding here takes you through open meadows, tall ponderosa forests, up on high hills where the views go on forever across the 3.3 million acre national forest and down into deep canyons with sheer cliffs and crystal clear streams. After spending time with the horses, guests can enjoy seeing 1,000-year-old Mimbres archeological sites (pit houses and cliff dwellings with pottery shards and pictographs), campfires, unguided hiking, roping lessons, photography, swimming in the creek or just reading a good book on a bench swing.

Golf

This region features some of the best golf courses in New Mexico. The mild climate ensures that golf can be played throughout the year. Albuquerque is home to many award-winning public golf courses and two that rank in the nation’s top 50: Twin Warriors Golf Club and the dramatic Paa-Ko Ridge Golf Club, which was awarded the only five-star rating in the Southwest by readers of Golf Digest. For a full list of public and private courses in New Mexico, visit www.newmexicogolf.com/courses.
