When you first learn of your assignment, contact the Military Personnel Flight at your losing base to request a sponsor. This may be an automated process, whereby Los Angeles AFB will be contacted electronically to assign a sponsor for you. Or you may call your Orderly Room to request a sponsor assignment. Your sponsor will answer many of your questions by telephone, email, or personal contact. He/She will send you a sponsor packet that contains maps of the area and the base as well as other information that will assist you and your family members.
To set up a forwarding address, call the Base Distribution Office, 61 CS/SCBA, 310-653-3639/3079, DSN 312-633-3639/3079, and discuss your Report No Later Than Date (RNLTD). Upon arrival you may pick up the mail in Building 271, Room B1-401. The office is open Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The forwarding address is: Your Name, Newcomer’s Mail, 483 N. Aviation Blvd, El Segundo, CA 90245-2808.
To establish a Post Office Box before arriving at Los Angeles Air Force Base, pick up an application at your local Post Office. Call the U.S. Postal Services at 800-275-8777 for prices on the size of box you want. Send the application and a copy of your orders to either of these addresses:
- U.S. Post Office, 200 Main Street, El Segundo CA 90245
- U.S. Post Office, 839 S. Beacon, San Pedro CA 90731
Los Angeles AFB does not have a 24-hour reporting station. If you are flying into the area, please arrange for your sponsor to greet you at the airport. We recommend that you arrive during duty hours Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm, for easier in-processing. If you are assigned to the Medical Squadron, report to the Clinic in Building 210. Those assigned to all other units will go to the Customer Service Office in the lobby of Building 272 between the hours of 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. If you arrive after duty hours, contact your sponsor or call the SMC Command Post at 310-653-3070, DSN 312-633-3070.
