Air Force Academy Staff Arrival Information

GETTING HERE

THE U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY IS NESTLED AT THE BASE OF PIKES PEAK, ONE OF COLORADO’S 53 FOURTEENERS (MOUNTAIN PEAKS WITH AN ELEVATION OF 14,000+ FEET). IT IS APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES NORTH OF DOWNTOWN COLORADO SPRINGS AND 60 MILES SOUTH OF DENVER, ALONG INTERSTATE 25.

Road travel from the west can be hazardous and challenging in the winter months due to inclement weather and closures of mountain passes. Call the Colorado State Patrol at 303-639-1111 or your travel agency for more information. If possible or necessary, detour around the mountains.

Nearby airports include Denver International Airport and Colorado Springs Municipal Airport, which shares an airfield with Peterson Air Force Base.

MILITARY INPROCESSING

Sponsors are appointed to help incoming Academy military personnel with questions or problems. Be sure to exchange contact information and your travel itinerary with your sponsor. If you are unable to contact your sponsor, call the base locator at 719-333-1110 or your gaining unit commander’s support staff.

Upon arrival, report directly to the Military Personnel Section in uniform. You will need to hand-carry your orders and the sealed PCS package from your last outprocessing appointment. While at the MPS, a customer service representative will update your CAC certificates and DEERS information and ensure your MilPDS record is updated, if applicable. You will then be directed to report to your specific unit for further instructions.

Within 30 days, your unit will schedule you for the mandatory newcomers’ orientation and first-term airman class. After gaining computer access, you will need to verify that a current copy of your SGLI is in your PRDA personnel record, update your vRED via vMPF, change your unit in LeaveWeb and ensure your address is updated via vMPF and DEERs.
