The AFAS provides emergency financial assistance in the form of a loan or grant to Air Force members and their families in need. Aid is based on the merits of each individual case. In many cases, evaluations can be made on the spot. Loans of $3,500 or less can be approved locally, while national society headquarters must approve larger loans. Applications are available at the A&FRC or the AFAS website. The AFAS also assists Air Force families with education grants, respite care, child care for volunteers, Give Parents a Break and Car Care Because We Care programs. The AFAS office is located in the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Building 2631. The office is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday. Call 907-377-2178 for an appointment.
