Commitment to world-class healthcare
Fort Belvoir Community Hospital is an integrated healthcare network providing world-class medical service to the nations wounded, active duty service members, retirees and family members. This new hospital is designed to increase hospital and outpatient care to all service members and veterans in the National Capital Region. The greater capacity and enhanced specialty care brings the services closer to the beneficiaries and reduces the need to travel to the treatment centers in the North. As a medical community providing health care to beneficiaries throughout the National Capital Medical Region, the guiding principles that drive us to achieve our mission, pursue our vision and maintain the highest level of quality and service are: - Culture of Excellence - Patient- and Family-Centered Care - Evidence-Based Design.
Culture of Excellence
Fort Belvoir Community Hospital is committed to fostering an environment in which service excellence is an integral part of our day-to-day work ethic. We believe it is the responsibility of every team member of the organization to treat all our customers, including patients, family members, visitors, providers, co-workers and all outside contacts, with courtesy, dignity, respect and professionalism.
Evidence-based healthcare design creates an environment that is therapeutic, supportive of family involvement and efficient for staff performance. It integrates research-based architectural design and holistic healthcare practices that result in improved patient outcomes, privacy, comfort and safety for both patients and staff. The design process for the new facility has incorporated as “many EBD concepts as possible. Some key features include abundant windows for maximum natural light, a nature theme throughout the hospital, healing gardens and acoustically absorbent materials for a quieter environment.“ Some of the benefits of EBD include a reduced rate of airborne and contact infections, less patient falls and staff injuries, reduced medication errors and increase in patient satisfaction.
Patient- and Family-Centered Care
Patient- and Family-Centered Care is working with patients rather than doing it to or for them. Patient and family engagement in the care process-working side by side—changes the culture of the organization. Family is defined by the patient, and family presence at the bedside is unlimited. Patient and family advisors are active participants in key hospital meetings and provide input in many areas of hospital operations.
