Louisiana School Enrollment

To be enrolled in a Louisiana school, a child must be at least 5 years old by Sept. 30 of the current school year. Registration typically requires a birth certificate or other proof of the child’s age and the child’s previous school records and immunization records. Visit the Louisiana Department of Education website for more information. Check with individual schools for additional enrollment requirements prior to arriving.

Bossier Parish Schools serves more than 23,500 students across 34 schools in Benton, Bossier City, Dealing, Elm Grove, Haughton and Princeton The district has 20 elementary schools, one intermediate school, six middle schools and seven high schools to meet the needs of the 127,000 residents of Bossier Parish. Many students have ties to nearby Barksdale AFB  so the district offers counseling and guidance to make things as easy as possible for transferring students.

Only two miles from Barksdale AFB’s front gate sits R.V. Kerr Elementary School. The school boasts award-winning clubs devoted to robotics, 4-H, math, reading and running. Students from pre-K through fifth grade receive real-world applications through STEAM classroom instruction and a partnership with Shreveport Symphony.

Sun City Elementary School sits about three miles south of Barksdale AFB. The elementary school enrolls Bossier Parish students in kindergarten through third grade. Classrooms are fully equipped with effective technology to promote student learning.

Parkway High School is a feeder school for the schools closest to Barksdale Air Force Base. Nearly 1,300 students attend Parkway. The A-rated high school works to prepare students for life after school, whether that means college, technical schools or entering the workforce right away. As the local high school serving the Barksdale AFB community, the school also offers the second-largest Air Force JROTC Program in Louisiana.
