July 17th, 1953 – Korea Facing a barrage of enemy attacks, Cpl. Charles F. Pendleton manned his machine gun post with courage and determination. He continually held off the attacks with accurate fire and grenade support. He defended his company’s flanks and tossed enemy grenades back fearlessly. Despite being burned by the hot shells ejecting from his weapon and wounded from a grenade, he refused evacuation and defended his post until mortally wounded by a mortar burst. #MedalOfHonor

July 13th, 2008 – Afghanistan Sergeant Ryan M. Pitts awoke to an anti-Afghan attack consisting of 200 enemies laying down intense fire. Wounded, heavily bleeding and unable to stand, he returned fire to the enemy, even tossing grenades he held until the last moment so that they detonated immediately upon impact. While the enemy was close enough to be heard speaking, Sgt. Pitts whispered in radio situation reports to call for help. His heroism earned him the #MedalOfHonor
