Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training and Evaluation Unit (EODTEU1) conducted a change of command ceremony June 14 on Naval Base Point Loma.

During the ceremony, Cmdr. David Blauser relieved Cmdr. Alan Beaty as the commanding officer of EODTEU1.

“I want to thank everyone for attending today’s ceremony,” said Blauser. “The EODTEU family has been very welcoming and I appreciate the very thorough turnover provided by the command.”

EODTEU1 also hosted a retirement ceremony for Beaty, commemorating 30 years of honorable service.

“The purpose of this ceremony is to say thank you to those who made my career possible,” said Beaty. “To the crew of EODTEU1, thank you for supporting my initiatives to improve the facilities and methodology for all of EOD.”

Capt. Oscar Rojas, commodore, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group One, provided the keynote remarks. He said, “The security environment has shifted dramatically in the past decade, and our Navy EOD force has grown and expanded to account for these winds of change, EODTEU1 has played a critical role in this growth and expansion, training our EOD force to the latest explosive ordnance disposal methods and preparing them to clear a path of access for our conventional and special operations forces in the midst of war.”

EODTEU1 develops and provides rigorous, relevant and realistic training to explosive ordnance disposal and mobile diving and salvage forces to prepare them for safe and successful operations in all environments while assessing new equipment, tactics, techniques and procedures.

U.S. Navy EOD is the world’s premier combat force for countering explosive hazards and conducting expeditionary diving and salvage. EODTEU1 is responsible for manning, training, and equipping subordinate units.
