Baltimore County Public Schools serve ­students in Baltimore County, which is located west of Harford County. The district is the third-largest district in Maryland, serving approximately 108,000 students. The district has 173 schools, programs and centers, including 28 magnet schools.

Within the district, 20 schools have been recognized as Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence and 16 were named National Blue Ribbon Schools. Other achievements include having the second-highest graduation rate among the nation’s largest school districts, according to Education Week. More than half of the district’s traditional and magnet high schools have been named among the nation’s top high schools by The Washington Post, Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report.

Cecil County Public Schools serve students in Cecil County, which is located east of ­Harford County. The district serves approximately 16,000 students. Within the district, there are 17 elementary schools, six middle schools, five high schools, one career and technology school, and one secondary alternative education program. Cecil County was ranked as one of the top counties in Maryland by the Center for American Progress in a study “Return on Educational Investment: A District-by-District Evaluation of U.S. Educational Productivity.”

The district offers specialized high school programs to prepare students for their selected career pathway. A STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Academy is also available in each of the five high schools, which provides accelerated curriculum rich in lab and work-based experiences.

Harford County Public Schools serve almost 40,000 students throughout the county. The district has 33 elementary schools, nine middle schools, nine high schools, one special education school, one technical school and an alternative education center. According to Maryland School Assessments, student testing performance within the district exceeds state averages.

The district also has several magnet programs. These programs provide students with the opportunity to experience challenging coursework in science, mathematics, technology and global studies.
