The Academy’s exchange provides a full range of services. The base exchange is across from the bowling alley near the bank on Community Center Drive. The exchange also has a General Nutrition Center, with the same hours as the exchange, in the Community Center. A Burger King is between the exchange and commissary. The main Community Center complex includes a military clothing sales store. Clothing sales not only provide uniform and accessories but Academy-specific gifts. The barber and beauty shops are in the complex as well. The complex also features some AAFES service facilities such as an alteration shop, laundry and dry cleaner, optical shop and flower shop.

The combined service station, Shoppette and Class VI are on Community Center Drive next to the Child Development Center. This facility has a grocery section and Class VI section, along with a full line of automotive products, and is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

A small retail annex on the third floor of the cadet academic building stocks snacks, beverages, stationery and other convenience items. Its hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A snack bar is on the same floor of Fairchild Hall and provides short-order food items as well as a coffee shop. Its hours are 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Cadet Bookstore, on the second floor of Vandenberg Hall, supports the Academy’s academic program. The bookstore also offers audio and computer equipment, Academy clothing, gifts, snacks, health and beauty products, and video and DVD rentals. Customers may also special order books. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.



The High Country Inn dining facility is restricted to Preparatory School cadet candidates, enlisted members and those authorized by the installation commander to meet mission requirements. The facility serves three meals per day during the Prep School academic year.

Dinner: 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.


2302 Cadet Drive

Located adjacent to the Cadet Area, Arnold Hall is the student center for the cadet wing but is open to all guests. It houses a theater, a ballroom, meeting rooms, the Polaris Perk Coffee Shop and an AAFES food court to include Subway and Domino’s. The Academy concerts office hosts a full season of entertainment shows.

The Air Academy Federal Credit Union is a full-service financial institution offering checking and savings accounts, mortgages and home equity loans, auto loans, electronic services — including online banking, mobile apps, online bill paying — and access to nearly 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs nationwide, as well as identity theft protection and much more.

Membership is open to anyone in the military (active or retired) and their family members, and individuals and their families assigned, attached or detailed for duty at the Academy. In addition, AAFCU serves 10 local school districts and more than 160 area businesses.

The credit union is on base in the Community Center, Building 5136. There are 24-hour ATMs at the branch and Fairchild Hall and a drive-up ATM between the base exchange and bowling alley.

AAFCU has seven other branch locations along the Front Range, and is a part of the CO-OP Shared Branching Network, giving you access to your account nationwide.

Armed Forces Bank is a full-service bank with a main branch in Building 5122 (next to the Community Center) and a cadet branch in Sijan Hall (Terrazzo level). Hours for the main branch are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the cadet branch, both Monday through Friday. The bank also operates five conveniently located ATMs: main bank, Sijan Hall, Vandenberg Hall, USAFA clinic and the AAFES Express.

Academy Bank, part of the same banking family as Armed Forces Bank, provides six day a week banking in most Colorado Springs Super Wal-Mart stores.

Located west of the base exchange, the commissary features full-service shopping along with a bakery, delicatessen and sushi bar.

The Academy Thrift Shop is in the Community Center complex, next to the Academy Credit Union, and is operated by the Officer’s Spouses Club. Anyone with a DOD ID card may consign their unneeded items. You do not need a DOD ID card to purchase items in the shop. There are bargains on household goods and sporting goods, as well as clothing, electronics and decorating items. Thrift Shop profits are distributed by the Officer’s Spouses Club to Air Force and civilian communities for scholarships and other charitable concerns.



The Veterinary Treatment Facility provides low-cost, quality health care to privately owned pets of active-duty and retired military members eligible to receive care at any military medical treatment facility through DEERS. Services include vaccinations, microchips, heartworm testing and prevention, and limited sick call, which focuses on the prevention of zoonotic diseases (diseases transmitted from animals to humans). Clinic staff will determine if the medical condition is within their scope of care when the owner calls for an appointment.

Emergency care, surgery, radiology, and boarding and grooming services are not provided. Newly arriving families should find a civilian clinic for services the base facility does not provide.
