The accredited programs are offered for children ages six weeks to five years and provide a nurturing and safe environment for all ages.

For infants, the CDC maintains a 1:4 adult-to-child ratio; for the toddlers, that ratio is 1:5. Preschoolers receive a curriculum that provides a solid foundation for kindergarten and are never in classes of more than 20 children. Meals are offered in the form of breakfast, lunch, and a light afternoon snack.

New London Community School District

Students living near U.S. Coast Guard Academy will most likely attend a school in the New London Public Schools (NLPS) district. NPLS is the first and only all-magnet school district in Connecticut, offering three magnet pathways: STEM, International Baccalaureate (IB), and Visual & Performing Arts. Your choice of school will depend on which of these programs your children pursue.

Across six campuses, NPLS serves 3,300 students. The district currently consists of four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. With each facility in the New London School District, CT will continue to impress you with its high-quality educational options.

This guide will focus on NLPS, but if you live further from the Academy, you may live in the boundaries of another district, such as East Lyme School District and Waterford School District.

The magnet program your child studied in determines which campus they’ll call home for these three years. If they were enrolled in STEM or IB, they’ll study at Bennie Dover; if their focus was Visual & Performing arts, they’ll study at New London High School, even during their middle school years.
