Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families

The Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families primarily provides and manages services for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, abandonment, mental illness or substance abuse. Services include prevention, early intervention, assessment, treatment and aftercare services. The department is also responsible for licensing day care facilities.

The department’s five divisions include Family Services; Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting; Prevention and Behavioral Health Services; Child Care Licensing, and Youth Rehabilitative Services.

The James W. Williams State Service Center offers client services administered by divisions of Delaware Health and Social Services. Programs and services include: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families; a food closet; Women, Infants and Children assistance; Medicaid assistance; medical and dental services; and an emergency shelter.
