Honoring courage, saluting sacrifice

Team Fairchild’s 92nd Security Forces Squadron hosted various events and ceremonies in observance of National Police Week May 13-17.

The law enforcement community is honored annually with numerous events after President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation in 1962 to designate May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week as National Police Week.

“The 92nd SFS does a week-long celebration to honor the lives lost through a memorial Fallen Defender Ruck, a law enforcement exposition for the kids, a retreat ceremony and a battle of the badge competition between security forces and the fire department,” said Staff Sgt. Gregory Guldner, 92nd SFS Police Services NCO in charge.

Each event throughout the week held a different meaning. The ruck represented each of the fallen defenders since 9/11 and the Law Enforcement Exposition for Michael Anderson Elementary students allowed Team Fairchild to raise awareness for gun and drug safety, Guldner explained.

Police Week is a chance for all law enforcement officials and affiliating agencies to pay respects to the officers that came before them.

“Honoring those who paid the ultimate sacrifice has always been important to me,” said Airman 1st Class Bruin Dew, 92nd SFS Installation Entry Controller apprentice. “It offers us a reminder of what we signed up to do — fight for our country beside other men and women, as a unit and team. I took part in this week to celebrate the lives of those who have fallen and honor the sacrifice they made for this country and to praise any and all other law enforcement officers for volunteering to keep others safe.”

No matter how technical operations become or how wide global missions expand, Airmen will continue to be the most treasured resource in today’s Air Force. By continuing to provide loyal and dedicated service to their country, Airmen serve as positive role models in communities and continue to set the standard of excellence.
