Humphrey assumes command of the 225th Air Defense Group

Col. Scott C. Humphrey became the new commander of the 225th Air Defense Group during an assumption of command ceremony at the Pierce County Readiness Center, Camp Murray, Wash., April 10, 2019.
The ceremony was presided over by Brig. Gen. Jeremy Horn, Washington Air National Guard commander.
Humphrey replaced Col. William A. Krueger, who retired after serving 20 of his 30 years of Air Force service at the Western Air Defense Sector.
Prior to the passing 225th ADG guidon, Horn explained that, “Scott has done phenomenal work as a utility player throughout the Washington National Guard with his service at the WADS, command of the 10th Civil Support Team, development of our State Partnership Program relationship with Malaysia, and most recently as a strategic leader within the WA ANG Headquarters and the national enterprise.”
After assuming command, Humphrey addressed the members of the WADS and expressed that he is “thrilled to be a servant leader, for you [WADS], at the tip of the spear, we all sleep better at night knowing that you are here and that you never blink. Know that your leadership team and I will be investing in your personal and professional development. That we will endeavor to live and grow the Washington Air National Guard culture of safe, respected and valued.”
“My charge to yougive your very best to the mission, the Guard family, and your own families. In return, I commit to the purpose of serving you.”
Humphrey began his military career in 1988 as an enlisted Airman where for the first four years of his military career he was a USAF Survival School (SERE) instructor at Fairchild AFB, Wash. In 1992, he joined the Washington Air National Guard’s 105th Air Control Squadron and later the Western Air Defense Sector.
Humphrey received his commission from the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Evergreen State College in 1998. After completing Air Battle Management training at Tyndall AFB, Fla., he was assigned to the Western Air Defense Sector as a command and control operations officer. In 2001, Humphrey became one of the founding members of the 262nd Information Warfare Aggressor Squadron also located on McChord AFB.
In 2005, Humphrey joined the 10th Civil Support Team Weapons of Mass Destruction providing emergency and disaster support to civil authorities. He served as an operations officer, deputy commander and commander during the next 10 years.
In 2015, Humphrey was selected to attend Air War College at Maxwell AFB, Ala., as an in-residence student. Upon graduation, Humphrey became the Washington National Guard’s deputy joint chief of staff and State Partnership Program Malaysia project officer until 2017. He was later assigned as the director of staff for the Washington Air National Guard commander prior to assuming command of the WADS.
