Story by Scott Sturkol on 02/21/2019
Contractors with Platt Construction of Tomah, Wis., work on the construction of a salt/sand storage facility in below-zero temperatures Feb. 19, 2019, at Fort McCoy, Wis.
Platt Construction received a $555,000 contract to build the facility that will be 70 feet wide by 88 feet deep.
The new facility will be capable of storing 2,000 tons of salt and 2,000 tons of sand with a partition between the two products.
The facility is designed to prevent direct contact of the salt with precipitation or with run-off from rain or ice and snow melt.
Fort McCoy’s Directorate of Public Works is monitoring the project construction.
Located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin. The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 military personnel from all services each year since 1984.
