Education Center

The Education Center serves soldiers, their family members and Department of the Army civilians with tuition assistance; veteran benefits; financial aid; military and academic standardized testing; educational counseling; testing for language aptitude and military classifications; and on-duty instruction in math, reading and language skills. The center also provides a multi-use learning facility for students to work on college classes or Army projects.

Representatives from Anne Arundel Community College, the University of Maryland University College and Central Michigan University are available at the facility to help students enroll in academic classes at their respective institutions.

Army Community Service

This program features classes and services to educate military personnel in matters pertaining to personal, financial and family wellness. All military ID cardholders and DOD civilian employees are eligible for ACS assistance and to enroll in ACS programs.


Airman and Family Readiness Center

830 Chisholm Ave.

7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday

The Airman and Family Readiness Center promotes, educates and facilitates readiness and resilience for service members and their families by ensuring they are connected with the appropriate services on and off post. The center provides information, referrals, financial services, relocation and transition assistance, employment programs and spouse orientations.

The center serves active-duty military members from all services, Guard and Reserve members, retired military members and Department of Defense civilians and their families. Services are free.

CYSS Parent Central Services and Outreach

Call or visit Parent Central Services to register for all Child, Youth & School Services programs, including child and youth development programs.

Child Development Centers 

Fort Meade offers four child development centers as well as the Family Child Care Provider program. The centers provide a safe, nurturing environment that promotes the social, cognitive, language and physical development of youngsters. All centers are accredited by the National Association of Education of Young Children. Hourly care is provided by CDC1 on a space-available basis and with reservations.

The Army’s Strong Beginnings Pre-K program prepares young children to enter school successfully by focusing on their social, emotional and physical development and equipping them with basic academic and “Kindergarten Classroom Etiquette” skills. CDC I, CDC II, CDC III and CDC IV all offer full-day programs, and a half-day program is available at CDC III.

Children of active-duty military personnel, DOD civilians and contractors, reservists and National Guard soldiers on active-duty status are eligible.

The Family Child Care program provides a flexible, family-based alternative to the Child Development Centers. Installation military family members trained in child development offer daycare in their homes. Sign up through an online system at Parent Central Services.

School Age Care Center

6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday

This program offers before- and after-school care and full-day care on school closure days for children in first through fifth grades. During the summer break full-day programs are available.

School Age Care Center programs include life skills, citizenship, arts, recreation and leisure programs. A computer lab and homework help are available.

School Support Services & School Liaison

The school liaison links Fort Meade and the surrounding school districts. School Support Services advocates for military families within the school system including home school and special-needs children.

Exceptional Family Member Program

This program provides special-needs families with information and referral services.

Youth Center

6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday

The middle school program serves young people in grades six through eight and is held before and after school. Transportation is provided to and from both middle schools on the installation. The program is designed for acquiring and enhancing social skills, developing creativity and building cultural awareness through such forums as 4H clubs and Boys & Girls Clubs and projects and activities, among them photography, individual and team sports, digital arts, drama and cooking.

Teen Center

3102 MacArthur Road

2 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday

The Teen Center is within walking distance of Meade High School and is designed to meet the developmental needs of teens. It offers field trips, dances, state-of-the-art computers and clubs for interests from weight lifting to literature. For teens 13 to 18 (grades nine to 12), it’s the place to be.

Legal Assistance Division

Power of attorney drafting and notary services are available on a walk-in basis; consultations with attorneys require an appointment. Services include family law, wills and estate planning, landlord-tenant problems, debt disputes, contractors and other issues.


Medal of Honor Memorial Library

The library is a source for information needs on almost any subject and in several formats: books, movies, reference books, current and back issues of magazines and newspapers, books on cassettes and CD, military professional reading list items, education videos, local telephone books, music CDs, foreign language materials and test study guides such as CLEP and DANTES.

The wheelchair-accessible building also houses computers for internet access to online databases, as well as resume-building and word-processing software. Come here for personalized help with questions; events, classes and storytimes; the Children’s and Young Adults’ Library; an online catalog (; and summer reading clubs and book discussion groups.

Arts & Crafts Center

This multipurpose facility is home to the frame and engraving shops, the woodshop and ceramics, though the engraving shop is closed on Saturday. Classes are available for youth and adults.

Automotive Skills Center

1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday

State-of-the-art equipment, tools, hydraulic lifts, scanning computers and expert advice are available, along with 24 open bays to meet your mechanical needs. Qualified specialists on-site can handle jobs do-it-yourselfers would rather not take on.

BOSS Program

The aim of the Better Opportunities for Single Service Members (BOSS) Program is to improve the overall quality of single service member’s lives. BOSS encourages and assists single soldiers in identifying and planning recreational and leisure activities while participating in and contributing to their respective communities. All single soldiers, single parents and unaccompanied service members can participate.

Bowling Center

With its 36 lanes, a full-service pro shop, a café and a lounge, The Lanes offers traditional league bowling, open recreational bowling, lessons and a video arcade room. Sundays are family days with discounts on bowling and food. If cosmic bowling is your thing, then hit the lanes on Saturday evenings with lights
and music.

Outdoor Recreation

Outdoor recreation has equipment rentals from sleeping bags to snow-cone machines to ski sets, outdoor adventure programs and activities, family camping, RV storage, a dog park, and a Rod and Gun Club that meets the first Thursday of each month.

Burba Park


Amenities include six lakeside locations; an outdoor pavilion with tables, benches and grills; a volleyball court; a softball field; horseshoe pits; a cottage; a lake surrounded by a blacktop walking path; and three fishing piers.

Camp Meade RV Park

The 50 campsites include three designed for handicap access and four camper cabins that each sleep six.

Ernie Pyle Road is open on a space-available basis to active-duty, Reserve, retired and DOD civilian personnel and their family members for boats, campers, trailers, canoes and vehicles.

The center includes a cardio room, life fitness and strength equipment, men’s and women’s saunas, two racquetball courts, a 25-meter indoor pool with lap and recreational swim, free mixed martial arts classes for adults, fitness coordination, a personal training program, and intramural and varsity sports.

Eagle Fitness Center

This small fitness center has a basketball court, spinning and weight rooms, a stretch and aerobic area, and a variety of workout and cardio equipment.

Murphy Field House

The center includes two racquetball courts, an aerobics room, two basketball/volleyball courts, a weight room and a cardio room.

Golf Course Partnership 

Since The Courses, Fort Meade’s golf course, was closed in 2012, the post has developed reciprocal agreements at local municipal courses to offer golf to service members. A valid military ID card is required for any discounted rate; call before going to confirm the reciprocal agreement remains in effect.

Fort Meade Museum

Established in 1963, the Fort Meade Museum collects, preserves, studies and exhibits military artifacts. Admission is free, but those without a Department of Defense ID card must be accompanied by a cardholder or federal employee; visiting the museum is no longer a valid reason for being allowed on base.

National Cryptologic Museum

9900 Colony Seven Road

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. first and third Saturday

This museum is owned and operated by the National Security Agency and is open to the public. Exhibits pertain to the history and impact of cryptology on world events. Exhibits range from 500-year-old books to the modern supercomputer.
