With 199 beds and a physician staff of more than 150 providing care in 31 medical specialties, Southwestern Medical Center is a Joint Commission accredited acute care hospital that provides 24-hour emergency services and round-the-clock X-ray and lab services, as well as comprehensive surgical care diagnostic imaging. Southwestern also features a 59-bed medical/surgical unit, a nine-bed ICU as well as comprehensive cardiopulmonary, women’s and children’s health services and rehabilitative programs.

The center prides itself on its series of firsts. It was the first hospital in Lawton to be awarded Accreditation with Commendation—the highest level of accreditation awarded by the Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest accrediting body. The center established the first cancer program in southwest Oklahoma, was the first to be accredited by the Commission on Cancer and was the first in area to offer Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy and Image Guided Radiation Therapy. The Southwestern Rehabilitation Center was the first facility of its kind to receive a three-year accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, the highest level of accreditation possible. Southwestern Medical Center is also the first—and only—Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center in southwestern Oklahoma.

Southwestern Medical Center’s leadership in providing first services for the region continues today through its high-quality specialized treatments. Its Neuroscience Center is the first and only Joint Commission-accredited stroke program in southwest Oklahoma, offering advanced treatment for neurological diseases and conditions, including brain tumors, aneurysms, stroke, disease of the spine, Alzheimer’s, seizures and Parkinson’s. Other advanced medical technologies include sleep services, the first and only Sleep Disorders Center in southwest Oklahoma accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine; Child, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric Behavioral Health Services; a Wound Healing and Hyperbarics Center; and a new Sports and Rehabilitation Center.
