CHILD, YOUTH & SCHOOL SERVICES - FAMILY AND MWR

By MyBaseGuide Staff Member

Child, Youth & School Services provides a seamless delivery service for youth 0-18 years of age through a variety of programs and services that promote growth and development. Programs and services include: child liaison, education and outreach services, school liaison services, Child Development Centers, School Age Centers, Youth Services, Family Child Care, youth sports and instructional programs.

Child Development Centers serve children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Programs include full-day, part-day, Georgia prekindergarten and hourly care. There are currently four CDCs serving Stewart and three serving Hunter.

CYSS Parent Central Services is currently in Building 438, Hero Road at Fort Stewart, 912-767-2312. At Hunter, the registration office is in Building 1286, Haley Avenue, 912-315-5425. Detailed information about CYSS and its online services can be found at the Family and MWR website. Click on Child, Youth & School Services on the left-hand side of the page.

Family Child Care serves children from 6 weeks to 12 years old and provides full- and part-day care, hourly care, extended hours care and emergency care. FCC homes can be found throughout the installations. Military spouses who live on the installation are trained to care for children in their own quarters. This is an alternative to center-based program care for parents who want a small-group, home-type atmosphere. It also provides an option for the single parent or dual military couples needing extended care during field exercises or deployment.

Breakfast, lunch and snacks are served daily and must be in compliance with the U.S. Department of Agriculture nutritional requirements.

Unique to Fort Stewart are two Child Development Centers that house the Georgia pre-K program and before- and after-school care for participants. A lottery is conducted every April for parents to get their children enrolled in slots. All children entering prekindergarten must be 4 years old by Sept. 1 of the year attending. Building 403 offers programs for before- and after-school care for on-post kindergarteners.

At Hunter Army Airfield, the Child Development Center at Building 8807 houses both the Georgia pre-K program and before- and after-school care for kindergartners. The hourly care program provides child care for parents who need service on an intermittent basis.

All children must have a complete registration packet, available at the one-stop registration offices, which includes an up-to-date immunization record. All children enrolling in sports programs must have a current physical before they can participate. Children and youth may also register for instructional programs such as dance, piano, taekwondo, gymnastics and more at the Central Registration offices. For more information on these programs, call Fort Stewart at 912-767-2312 or Hunter at 912-315-5425.

A school liaison officer is located at each installation. The SLO can be reached at 912-767-6533 at Fort Stewart and 912-315-6586 at Hunter Army Airfield. The SLO is there to assist families and children when transitioning from one school system to another by providing information on local schools, assisting parents with special education needs and issues, and providing transition support.

All Soldiers accompanied by family members ages 0-18 years are required to in- and out-process through the CYSS Parent Central Services Office. For more information on CYSS programs, please contact the registration offices at 912-767-2312, Fort Stewart, and at 912-315-5425, Hunter Army Airfield.
