Fort Stewart Community
Evans County was formed in 1914 from portions of Tattnall and Bulloch counties. Principle communities in Evans County include the county seat Claxton, Bellville, Daisy and Hagan.
Claxton is home to some of the largest poultry and beekeeping industries in Georgia. Claxton Poultry ships poultry products to all sections of the United States and around the world. Wilbanks Apiaries is a beekeeping, family-owned business that has spanned five generations.
Claxton hosts the Rattlesnake & Wildlife Festival each March. The two-day festival attracts around 15,000 visitors to Claxton with snake-handling demonstrations, wildlife educational programs, a pageant and a parade.
U.S. highways 280 and 25/301 intersect in Claxton, providing access to many other areas. Interstate 16 is 11 miles from the city while Interstate 95 is about 40 miles away.
