NAVFAC EXWC MUSE Aids Midwest Air Force Weather Agency Relief Efforts to Combat Local Power Outages
Story by Sarah MacMillan on 07/22/2019
Naval Facilities (NAVFAC) Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (EXWC) Mobile Utilities Support Equipment (MUSE) Division was called upon by the Air Force Weather Agency Headquarters based out of Offutt Air Force Base (AFB) to help aid power supply relief efforts due to overzealous rainfall this past week.
After emergency weather declarations were announced through the Midwest, MUSE Seabees coordinated and executed the transportation of four 60,000 lb. generators, one large substation and two fuel tanks using a 240-ton crane within two days.
In the event the weather worsens and Offutt AFB loses power, the MUSE generators will allow for the Air Force Weather Agency to continue running front line unit power operations necessary to enable decision makers to exploit relevant environmental information across all warfare spectrums. Standby generators will also be allotted for use through the end of the fiscal year.
MUSE’s involvement in aiding the Air Force Weather Agency’s power supply need is crucial as the entity delivers environmental situational awareness worldwide to the Air Force, Army, joint warfighters, Unified Combatant Commands, the national intelligence communication and the Secretary of Defense.
