Students are assessed annually using Florida’s state-wide assessment referred to as FCAT. Students in grades 3 thru 10 take the FCAT-SSS which is a criterion-referenced test on the Sunshine State Standards on which our curriculum is based and the FCAT-NRT which is a norm-referenced test. Both of the segments cover the areas of reading and math. Students in grades 5, 8 and 11 are also given FCAT-SSS on the area of science. In addition, the students in grades 4, 8 and 10 take FCAT Writing which is a segment of the state’s assessment that tests the student’s writing skills.

Even though the preparation for FCAT testing is done throughout the school year by the curriculum that is taught based on the Sunshine State Standards, often there are extra FCAT preparation materials and activities that are available as well. Ask your child’s teacher about how to access FCAT Explorer on your home computer for extra practice for your child.

For more information on FCAT, you can access their website.
