Worship service in JBER chapel, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, JBER

The JBER chapel community is known for its upbeat and dynamic worship, its vibrant children’s ministry, youth and young adult (Airmen and Soldiers) ministries, uplifting music, powerful preaching, strong religious education and world-class staff. All are welcome to share their talents and gifts with the chapel to the glory of God.

In addition to chapel-based ministries, all JBER units have an assigned chaplain. Unit chaplains provide confidential counseling to military members and their families, flightline and unit visitation, and comprehensive pastoral care. Unit chaplains are the service member’s first point of contact for spiritual, ethical, and moral issues and are available to engage with leadership with requests for religious accommodation. Chaplain Corps ministry extends to deployed locations, and if your loved one is deployed, the JBER chapel team is dedicated to serving you in his or her absence with 100 percent confidentiality.

Worship services from a wide variety of faith groups — including Catholic Mass Sunday through Wednesday and Friday — are available on the installation and are open to all. The chapel community includes more than 1,500 attending services each month.

The religious education programs offer a wide variety of activities from various faith groups, including Veritas (CCD classes for Catholics), Protestant classes for ages ranging from nursery school through high school, and classes on Jewish topics. Weekly Bible study groups and other adult religious education opportunities are also a vital part of the religious education program. The annual Vacation Bible School is supported by both the Protestant and Catholic communities. For religious education schedules call the JBER Religious Operations Center at 907-552-5762.

The Protestant and Catholic communities offer many activities through the innovative leadership of chapel advisory councils. These include adult and children’s choirs, the Catholic Women of the Chapel and Protestant Women of the Chapel, Christian men’s organizations, and special family and social events.

Chaplains and other staff members conduct religious retreats on and off the installation for singles, engaged couples, families, youth and married couples. A few are over a weekend, and many are one-day events on-site.

The Chaplain Family Life and Training Center, 907-551-0095, has family life chaplains with advanced degrees and certification in marriage and family counseling, providing specialized help to individuals, couples and families. Go to the chapel Facebook page for additional information/JBER Chapel Community.

Protestant and Catholic singles ministries offer vibrant, young-adult-focused opportunities in Eagle River and on JBER. The chapel youth ministry provides activities and fun for Protestant and Catholic youth in seventh through 12th grades. Call the JBER Religious Operation Center (JROC) for more details on these ministries.

For more information about on-base worship services or other chapel programs, call 907-552-JROC (5762). Through these chapel and chaplain ministries and more, the JBER chapel supports the installation commander, delivering spiritual resiliency to stay Arctic tough and family strong.

To speak to or make an appointment with a chaplain, call the JROC at 907-552-5762. A chaplain is always on call at night and on weekends to meet emergency needs. You may reach the duty chaplain anytime between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. by calling either the JBER Command Post at 907-552-3000 or the U.S. Army Alaska Command Operations Center at 907-384-6666.
