Joint Base San Antonio Military Trusted Businesses
At Shooting For Success, we’re so much more than basketball training. We are a basketball organization dedicated to teaching athletes the correct fundamentals, a better understanding of the game, and a set of core values we expect our players to demonstrate on and off the court.
SFS basketball offers private basketball training, camps and clinics, youth fundamentals training, virtual training, and, for year round players, developmental and competitive club teams in various age divisions.
Shooting For Success is founded by Former Professional Player, David “DJ” Jones. Jones grew up in a military family and credits it for instilling a passion in him for exploring countries and locations. Jones even met his wife, who was also raised in an Air Force family, while playing ball in Germany. In all, Jones’ basketball career spanned over 13 years and took him throughout Europe and Asia. Jones played against true basketball greats such as Dirk Nowitski and has held records for 3-point-shots and points scored per game throughout his career. While playing basketball was a dream come true, DJ discovered his true life calling one day while being given the opportunity to coach a German youth basketball team. Working with up and coming athletes seemed to fulfill the lifelong athlete more than winning any game or breaking any record. This newfound passion led to a move back to the states and the creation of Shooting For Success.
Not only does DJ develop youth players, he also works with adult and professional players. Early in his coaching career, DJ trained an up and coming Jeremy Lin pre-NBA draft. DJ’s ability to fix a broken shot and make good shots even better earned him global recognition. Today, in addition to developing players at Shooting For Success in San Antonio, Texas, DJ also serves as the head coach of the Vietnamese Women’s National Team. He also regularly coaches camps and clinics in China, India, Germany, Turkey, and Vietnam. Likewise, players from these countries as well as Mexico and others travel to San Antonio to train with Jones.
