The state department of health works to protect and improve the health and well-being of all Arkansans. To that goal, the organization offers more than 100 services provided statewide by public health professionals to ensure that water is safe, children have their immunizations, restaurants are safe and birth certificates are correct — to name just a few.
The department’s main office is in Little Rock, with 94 local health units in each of the state’s 75 counties. More than 5,000 employees and public and private partners help make the department’s goal a reality by helping people make their lives healthier. Its website has information on health topics, services available and a listing of local health units by region.
Local health units offer a variety of services, including communicable disease investigation and intervention, family planning, immunizations, STD counseling and testing, WIC and nutrition services, women’s health services and more. Services vary by location. A listing of local health units in Pulaski and Lonoke counties follows.
