Alabama Shakespeare Festival

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is a professional regional theater, and its approximately 10 world-class presentations each season have Shakespeare productions as their artistic core. The theater also offers Broadway musicals, children’s shows, American classics and world premieres. Performances are held at the Carolyn Blount Theatre’s 792-seat Festival Stage and 262-seat Octagon Stage. The theater also has a restaurant, the Black Swan Bar and Bistro.

Capri Theatre

Built in 1941, the Capri Theatre was the first neighborhood theater in Montgomery. Originally called the Clover, the theater was remodeled and renamed in 1962. The Capri Theatre is operated by the Capri Community Film Society and is Montgomery’s sole independent cinema. Visit the theater’s website for information about movie schedules, tickets and more.

The Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts

The Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts opened in 1930 as the Paramount Theatre, a movie palace for the new talkies and vaudeville shows. When the theater was updated with a state-of-the-art audio system and lighting, many original details were restored or reproduced, including the plaster ornamentation, chandeliers, the building’s exterior and the grand marquee. Today, the 1,200-seat theater hosts events from musicals to shows, chamber music groups, orchestras, dance ensembles, ballets and more.

Montgomery Ballet

Founded in 1958, the Montgomery Ballet, which performs at the Davis Theatre, is the only professional ballet company in the Capital City and River Region. The ballet maintains 30 full-time dancers and a ballet school, which offers more than 2,200 classes to students each year. For information on upcoming performances, visit the ballet’s website.

Montgomery Performing Arts Centre

The Montgomery Performing Arts Centre, a first-class, 1,800-seat facility in downtown Montgomery, hosts entertainment events including Broadway shows, concerts, opera, comedy, dance and children’s productions. Visit the center’s website for information on upcoming events.

Montgomery Symphony Orchestra

For more than 40 years, the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra has provided musical entertainment for the community as well as sponsoring the Montgomery Youth Orchestra, which performs two concerts annually. Though most of the symphony’s concerts are at the Davis Theatre, its popular holiday pops concert is held at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center, and its fellowship series is at the Wilson Auditorium in the Montgomery Museum.
