MCLB Albany Community
FOR OPERATIONAL FORCES
Welcome to Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Georgia – home of Marine Corps Logistics Command headquarters. Established in 1952 as the Marine Corps Depot of Supplies, the installation covers an area of approximately 3,600 acres in Dougherty County. We serve as an enabling platform for more than 4,700 professional military, civilian and contract personnel to ensure that ground combat and ground combat support equipment is ready when required by Marine operational forces.
We host many tenant organizations, to include Marine Depot Maintenance Command, Marine Force Storage Command, the Georgia Army National Guard, several Defense Logistics Agency activities and other tenants who either support national defense, or serve our Marines, Sailors, veterans and their families.
Safety is incorporated in everything we do, and we are consistently distinguished as having one of the most comprehensive and credible safety programs throughout the Department of Defense. MCLB Albany is one of only five Marine Corps installations recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as a Voluntary Protection Programs Star Site. We have safe, clean, working and living areas, and we strive to make efficient use of our natural resources while conserving energy through awareness and new technology. In 2017, we proudly accepted the Marine Corps’ Ground Safety Warrior Preservation Award.
We actively seek environmentally-conscious opportunities and look for ways to decrease our use of non-renewable energy sources to increase security and reduce cost. These efforts, like a 44mw solar facility that was leased to Georgia Power in 2017, spans 150 acres and supports the Marine Corps’ goal to ensure reliable, resilient and efficient power to assure all mission-critical activities.
During regional emergencies, MCLB Albany serves as an Incident Support Base which enables the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide emergency services in conjunction with other entities to the region. Recently, we served as an ISB for FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers – which brought those two teams together here during the Hurricane Michael recovery effort – one agency focused on power restoration, and the other concentrated on debris removal.
While in Albany, please take the opportunity to enjoy a great military-friendly community that loves its Marines. The city and surrounding communities are filled with opportunities to enjoy great outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, golfing and hunting. Along with its first class Southern hospitality, the region offers attractions such as festivals, water parks, museums, historical sites and parks, just to name a few. Albany is also home to two institutions of higher learning, as well as a good mixture of private and public schools.
Whether you are assigned to the base, a tenant organization, you’re a family member or just passing through, we hope this guide helps you better understand our role as a readiness enabler, and assists you in navigating the various base services and the local area.
