Three U.S. highways and four state highways link Ward County with the rest of the state and to Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana and Canada.
For those flying, two major airports are within 120 miles of Minot and two more are less than 300 miles away.
Minot has public transportation both within the city and to outlying county towns, two taxi companies, Greyhound and Jefferson Lines bus service and daily stops by Amtrak’s round-trip Empire Builder passenger train that connects Chicago to Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington.

The city-owned and operated Minot International Airport is 2 miles north of the main business district and about 11 miles from Minot Air Force Base. It’s served by Allegiant Air’s weekly service to Las Vegas and Phoenix-Mesa in Arizona, Delta Air Lines’ daily flights to Minneapolis-St. Paul and United Airlines’ daily flights to Denver.
Ground transportation includes two taxi companies and five rental car agencies, but there is no shuttle, bus or train service.

Bismarck Airport is about 120 miles from Minot Air Force Base and has five major carriers: Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier and United airlines. Ground transportation includes three rental car services and taxi and limo services.

Grand Forks International Airport is about 240 miles southeast of Minot Air Force Base and just less than 5 miles west of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Served by Allegiant and Delta Air Lines, it is the busiest commercial airport in the state. Travelers can choose among four car rental agencies, six taxi companies and shuttle service to four local hotels.

Hector International Airport, 3 miles northwest of Fargo, North Dakota, is about 270 miles southeast of Minot Air Force Base and served by Allegiant, American, Delta and United airlines. As of November 2016, the airport had seen 360,773 passenger boardings. The airport has seven car rental agencies and six taxi companies to pick from for ground transportation.

Amtrak’s commercial rail service station for Minot is at the downtown site of the original 1905 station, built by the Great Northern Railway and recently restored to its original brick-and-gabled charm. The Empire Builder passenger train pauses daily in Minot, one of the seven North Dakota cities it serves on its way from Chicago to Seattle or Portland, then back again. Souris Basin Transportation

Nonprofit Souris Basin Transit serves the public but concentrates on transporting the elderly and people with special needs within Minot and a seven-county area, including Ward County. Its dozen buses with wheelchair lifts and seven vans operate on deviation-type routes, or by Dial-A-Ride. Intercity passengers can get to and from Minot from Sawyer, Kenmare, Donnybrook, Carpio, Burlington and Surrey.
