See the Getting To & Around chapter on Page 15 for information about local airports, train service and public transportation. The closest commercial flights land at Boise Airport in Boise, Idaho, about 50 miles from the base.
Contact your sponsor and advise them of your estimated arrival time and flight information if applicable prior to your arrival at Mountain Home Air Force Base.
Sponsorship is vital to the relocation process. Don’t PCS without talking to your sponsor before departing for Mountain Home Air Force Base. Your sponsor will answer any questions you have about the base and the local area, make lodging or dorm arrangements and meet you upon arrival. Your sponsor will be there to help you and your family until you are settled into your new community.
If you have not been in touch with a sponsor and your departure is nearing, contact your gaining unit or call the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 208-828-2458.
Cellphone use by the driver of a moving motor vehicle is prohibited on all Department of Defense installations, unless the cellphone is used with a hands-free device.
From Boise Airport
There are limited shuttle services available from the airport. Visit www.iflyboise.com/parking-transportation/ground-transportation or call the Mountain Home Shuttle Service at 208-580-1887 for more information on shuttle services.
If you arrive by commercial taxi, you should call your sponsor from the visitor’s center next to the main gate. Your sponsor will arrange transportation onto the base or you can call the base taxi at 208-828-2215. The base is only accessible to military personnel and their family, government service employees and contract personnel. Proper identification is required to enter the base.
If you are driving from the airport, head southwest on West Airport Way. Continue onto the Vista Connector Road. Turn right to merge onto Interstate 84 toward Mountain Home. Take Exit 90 for I-84 toward State Highway 51/State Highway 67 for Mountain Home. Merge onto I-84 BUS E/Old U.S. 30/Sunset Strip. This road will turn into Airbase Road after the underpass. Follow this all the way to the base gate (it will take about 15 minutes). The entire drive from the airport to the base gate will take just under an hour.
From Interstate 84
Whichever direction you come from, once you are in Idaho you will take Interstate 84.
I-84 West from Twin Falls: Take Exit 95 toward Mountain Home/Fairfield onto American Legion Boulevard/State Highway 51. Stay on American Legion Boulevard/State Highway 51 (about 17 miles), then turn left onto North Main Street/Old U.S. 30 east. Continue on Main Street, which turns into State Highway 67 and Airbase Road and leads to the front gate.
I-84 East from Boise: Take Exit 90 for I-84 toward State Highway 51/State Highway 67 for Mountain Home. Merge onto I-84 BUS E/Old U.S. 30/Sunset Strip. This road will turn into Airbase Road after the underpass. Follow this all the way to the base gate (it will take about 15 minutes). The entire drive from the airport to the base gate will take just under an hour.
If you are traveling with a moving truck or trailer, you must enter the base through the Grandview Gate. Take I-84 and follow the previous directions, however from Airbase Road you will take a right on Grandview Road and follow the road until you see the Grandview Gate on the left. Grandview Gate hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

MPS is closed the last Thursday of every month for training.
When you arrive at the base, you are required to inprocess with the Military Personnel Section before you go house hunting. Bring your sealed envelope from your last duty station and a copy of your orders to MPS Customer Service. MPS will give you the proper paperwork for your house hunting days and will schedule your inprocessing appointments for after you return from house hunting. If you arrive after duty hours or on the weekend, report to the Sagebrush Inn, Building 2320, for temporary lodging and more information.
Newcomers Orientation Event
The installation commander invites all newly assigned personnel and spouses to attend the newcomers orientation at the Gunfighter’s Club in Building 195. The orientation includes presentations from base agencies and provides helpful information on the local community. Community and base organizations have information displays and literature to share during breaks. Spouses are also encouraged to attend the Heart Link get-together offered at the Airman & Family Readiness Center.

The Sagebrush Inn provides accommodations to Air Force families, TDY personnel and PCS families, as well as friends and family members with space-available reservations. Rooms include wireless internet, cable TV, mini refrigerators and coffee service. Advance reservations are highly encouraged. Pets are allowed in limited accommodations for an additional fee; contact the inn for more information.
