Education and Training Center

The Education and Training Center provides educational opportunities and counseling services to all Air Force members assigned to Mountain Home Air Force Base, active-duty personnel, DOD civilian employees, adult family members and military retirees.

Airman & Family Readiness Center

The Airman and Family Readiness Center provides professional assistance to develop and maintain resilient airmen and families, enabling them to adapt, grow and thrive while serving at home or abroad in the Air Force. The A&FRC provides education and consultation to all active-duty members, retirees, civilian employees and their families covering a wide range of human and family topics, such as deployments, marriage, parenting, personal finance, relocation and self-improvement.

Child Development Center

6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday

The Child Development Center offers weekly care for children 6 weeks to 5 years old. The center provides a safe, nurturing environment that promotes the social, cognitive, language and physical development of youngsters. The center is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs and follows standards set by the Air Force Services Agency.

Children of active-duty military personnel, DOD civilian personnel, reservists on active duty and DOD contractors are eligible. Fees are based on total family income. Registration requires a completed DD Form 2606, immunization records, leave and earnings statements and emergency contact info.

Exceptional Family Member Program

This program provides special-needs families with information and referral services.

Family Child Care

Family Child Care provides an alternative to care at the Child Development Center for families that need evening care, weekend care, care for children after a deployment or during R&R leave from a deployed location, infants and school-age children, as well as care during swing and midnight shifts.

The program also offers an opportunity for spouses to contribute to the family income while caring for their own children.

FCC providers are well trained, they and their family members undergo a thorough background check and their homes are inspected for various safety and health requirements. In addition, their homes are monitored on a regular basis (at least monthly) by the program staff.

School Liaison Program

The school liaison officer is the central point of contact for school-related matters between commanders, military families and local school systems. The office provides support to service members during all stages of transition and deployment to ensure children receive every opportunity for quality education.

Youth Programs

Youth Programs offers a range of developmentally appropriate activities for youth 5 to 18 years old, such as the nationally accredited school-age program and year-round sports programs. Youth Programs also offers opportunities with to become involved with Torch Club, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and 4-H programs.

The base library has more than 31,000 books, more than 6,000 entertainment and educational DVDs, more than 2,100 CDs, 35 magazine and three newspaper subscriptions, a diverse collection of language resources, and CLEP and DANTES exam study guides. The library also has a variety of programs and resources, including a book club, story time for children, children’s computers, wireless printing and more.

The base’s indoor heated swimming pool offers recreational and lap swimming. A small fee is charged for daily entry during open swim, but lap swim is free. Swimming lessons are available. The pool is open year-round, but hours are seasonal; check the website for more information.

Auto Skills Center

Noon to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday

Do your own automobile maintenance at the center using its stalls, lifts and tools. It also offers mechanics if you prefer to leave the repairs in expert hands.

Bowling Center

7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, noon to 8 p.m. Sunday

Strike up some family fun at the bowling center. Shoe rental, bowling leagues, a pro shop and a snack bar are available. The Bowling Center also has a private room available for personal events or birthday parties.

Community Skills Center

The Community Skills Center hosts a variety of events for recreation and entertainment, and offers fax and copy services to meet many of your business needs. It offers discount tickets to several local attractions like Wahooz Fun Zone, Roaring Springs Water Park and Edwards Cinema, as well as Utah’s Lagoon Amusement Park, Disneyland and Disney World. It also offers framing and engraving services to create unique gifts or custom frames.

Fitness & Sports Center

The center offers a resistance and weight training room, a cardio theater with TV-equipped machines, racquetball and basketball courts, and a parent and child workout area. There are also outdoor facilities, including basketball courts near the dormitories, softball fields, an asphalt running track, multipurpose fields and tennis courts.

A fitness center annex, on Desert Street in Bldg. 2306, is equipped with spin bikes, cardio equipment, selectorized equipment, a basketball court, punching bags, free weights and an indoor running track. The annex is open for use during the fitness center’s regular hours. After-hours access is available by registering at the fitness center.

Golf Course and Pro Shop

Silver Sage is a challenging 18-hole golf course featuring a putting green and covered driving range, as well as a pro shop. The professional staff at Silver Sage has a passion for golfer development and leads the charge in the Air Force in this area with innovative programs such as Get in the Game, designed to create new golfers by providing equipment, instruction and practice time for one low price. Silver Sage also hosts an annual junior golf program that gets youngsters interested in golf while providing them with custom fit golf clubs of their own. Kids Gym

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and holidays

The Gunfighter Kids’ Gym is the largest indoor playground within 60 miles. Kids will get exercise with five slides, basketball hoops and climbable structures. There is a toddler section for children 5 and under. The gym is co-located with Jet Stream Java and has free Wi-Fi and device charging stations.

Mini Golf

Take a tour of the base by putting the 18-hole Gunfighters Greens mini golf course. The course is behind the Bowling Center and Strikers Grill. To play, get your putter and ball from Bowling Center staff.

Movie Theater

Movie times: 7 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday

Gunfighter Theater offers free admission and doors open 45 minutes before the show. Visit the website for movie schedules. The theater is also available for rent — you choose the movie with free admission for your guests and 25 small popcorn buckets included.

Outdoor Recreation

Outdoor Recreation offers exciting, year-round, high-adventure programming for Gunfighters and their families. Its equipment rentals include inflatable structures, party items, camping equipment and winter equipment. FamCamp is open year-round (reservations are not accepted). C.J. Strike Marina is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend; its amenities include a fishing dock, a picnic area, a snack bar and boat rentals.

Looking to do some shooting? Hit the trap and skeet range or the archery range; passes are available at Outdoor Recreation. Lessons at each range are also available. Other Outdoor Rec classes can teach you how to ski, cook with a Dutch oven and use a Global Positioning System.

Idaho has some of the best whitewater rafting in the world. Outdoor Rec offers opportunities to take a day trip with gear and transportation provided. Other trips available range from snowmobiling to rock climbing.


Mountain Home AFB Commissary

Save your hard-earned dollars when shopping for groceries at the Mountain Home AFB commissary. In-store amenities and specialties include a bakery, custom photo cakes, a deli, fresh sandwiches to go, party cakes, plants, rotisserie chicken and sushi. Early-bird shopping is available from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at self-checkout only.

Mountain Home AFB Exchange

The Mountain Home Air Force Base Exchange wants to be your first choice for shopping. It offers a price-match program that guarantees the lowest prices in town. Hours of operation for services outside of the main exchange vary so call or visit the website for detailed information.
