NHC Corpus Christi Change of Command June 7

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (May 21, 2019) — During a Change of Command Ceremony June 7, 2019, Navy Capt. Eric S. Evans will assume the Watch as the new Commanding Officer of the Naval Health Clinic Corpus Christi as staff, community partners, guests, family and friends bear witness.

The ceremony is an honored product of the rich heritage of naval tradition and will be observed at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi Catalina Club, Bldg. 1283, at 10 a.m.

Capt. Miguel A. Cubano, at the clinic’s helm since July 31, 2017, will report as Commanding Officer NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan.

Evans comes to Corpus Christi after serving as executive officer, Navy Medicine Training Support Center, Joint Base San Antonio Fort Sam Houston.

Evans earned a Bachelor of Science from Butler University and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Indiana University, School of Dentistry. He also earned a certificate in comprehensive dentistry from the Naval Postgraduate Dental School and holds a Master’s in Health Sciences from George Washington University. He received his commission and reported for active duty in 2000.

Evans completed advanced education in general dentistry at Naval Dental Center, Mid-Atlantic in 2001.

At sea, Evans deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard USS Nashville (LPD 13), participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Joint Task Force Liberia. Ashore, his assignments include assistant dental officer, 2nd Dental Battalion, Camp Lejeune; dental department head, Joint Maritime Facility, St. Mawgan, United Kingdom; dental department head, and interim officer-in-charge, Naval Branch Health Clinic Fallon, Nevada; director, Dental Services, Naval Hospital Pensacola, and regional dental officer, Navy Medicine East.

Evans maintains board certification in the American Board of General Dentistry, and is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. He is the recipient of the LTJG Weedon E. Osborne award for significant contributions to operational readiness while serving with the Fleet Marine Force, and he is authorized to wear the Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer Insignia.

Evans’ personal awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) and various other service and unit awards.
