NAS Oceana Mayor of Virginia Beach

Welcome military members and families,

Whether you are moving to Virginia Beach for the first time or returning, I speak for the city and community when I say we are glad to have you here with us! You will find Virginia Beach is a friendly community with citizens who are respectful of the sacrifices you and your family have made as part of your military service. I have lived in Virginia Beach all my life, and once you have spent some time here, you will understand why I stayed.

Virginia Beach has a lot to offer, whether you are single or raising a family. Our parks and recreation centers are second to none and located in close proximity to all of our neighborhoods. We invite you to explore the miles of beachfront, kayak the waterways and hike the trails of First Landing State Park. Enjoy our first-rate aquarium or take a whale-watching or dolphin-watching cruise. For entertainment there is the Farm Bureau Live amphitheater with top-name groups, the Sandler Center for the performing arts and a myriad of art galleries. In the summer the oceanfront is alive with street vendors and entertainment troupes. Events throughout the year include art festivals, sand castle competitions and musical events.

We appreciate our military family, and we view you as a vital part of our community. You will find resources for the military member in our schools, on our city website, in our recreation centers and various other locations around town. If you have a questions or concerns, we want to help. Again, thank you for your contribution to our country and thank you for joining our community.

We hope you and your family will thrive here and you can make Virginia Beach your home for a lifetime.

Thank you for your service,

William D. Sessoms, Jr.
